When I was asked to review Indian SuperMeals Baby & Toddler Cookbook by Zainab Jagot Ahmed I jumped at the chance as we are big fans of Indian cuisine but have never tried the little ones with it.
Zainab was frustrated by the bland, pureed vegetable meals she was feeding her daughter and searched online for Indian foods for her daughter, but was frustrated that she could find nothing and so this recipe book was born.
The "Super" of SuperMeals refers to the extra health benefits associated with these meals, over and above normal meals, due to the inclusion of carefully selected foods, SuperFoods and SuperSpices. When fused together they produce scrumptious meals, chock-full of nutitional value for baby and toddler. You can read more about it here.
The book is full of cooking techniques, information about the food and recipes and which foods you should (and shouldn't) be feding your baby. Ther is even a Spice Starter Kit and a list of essential equipment (all of which I already had as nothing out of the ordinary)
The book itself (I have on a iPad) is bright and colourful and well thought out. The recipes are easy to follow and all look delicious enough for adults. I am looking forward to making Warming Carrot and Broccoli Soup for us!
As well as Indian inspired food, there are also some child favourites with a twist like Pizza Pitta Fingers and Scrambles Egg with Cheese and Onion. I was very excited to find a recipe for Mint Yoghurt Raita, as it is a favourite in this house and I cannot believe how easy it is to make!!
The book takes you from Stage 1 through to stage 4 and recipes the whole family can eat and the older ones have already picked out which recipes they want to try!
I shall keep you posted on our favourites.
You can find Zainab on facebook and twitter and I have found her to most helpful with menu suggestions and advice!!
The book is available from Waterstones and Amazon!
