O2 Recycle
I upgraded my phone in December and was pondering whether to recycle my phone or to sell it on eBay.
I have used phone recycling sites before with no issues, including Mazuma, Boots, Tesco and O2 Recycle. This time O2 stood out for me a they offered me significantly more than any of the others and promised that the money would be in my account the same day they received the phone!
The phone I sent to recycle was an iPhone 4 16gb and was in brilliant condition seeing as it was over a year old. It has always had a hard wearing cover on the back and a screen protector and as such had no scratches, dents or dinks.
I sent the phone by special delivery to ensure it was insured and that it would get to O2 the very next day. It cost me £7 but I figured it would be worth it as I assumed that the phone would be checked and processed the very next day.
I posted the phone on Monday 10th December and checked my tracking number on the Tuesday afternoon to check it had been signed for - it had. Yet I had no correspondence from O2. In fact I had nothing until I received an email from them on 13th December stating "We are very pleased to tell you we have received your order however, we wanted to update you that there is a difference between the value quoted and our final offer. This is because your item received a revision during our grading process" - then referred me to their T&Cs!!
Basically they took just over 10% off the value of my phone stating "Visible cosmetic damage". I was hopping mad if I am honest but I composed myself as I know shouting will get you nowhere and phoned the contact number.
I spoke to a very helpful lady called Pauline who promised to investigate and come back to me, which she did later that afternoon via email stating "I have been through and have had a look at your device, it does have some very light wear and tear".
As I said before, my phone was just over a year old so light wear and tear would be expected. I phoned again as I wanted to know where the wear and tear was and was advised it was around the edges (which i can only assume is where the phone cover doesn't protect).
I replied back on the email asking how they expected a phone to be in "as new" condition when it was sent into be recycled and O2 replied back offering me an extra £5.70 as a gesture of goodwill.
I really felt that this wasn't good enough and had the case escalated to a supervisor on 14th December who had the handset re-checked and was happy to offer me the full payment, however it would show as two separate payments - one for the offer amount and one for the "courtesy payment", but I wouldn't receive this until Tuesday 18th December. So much for a same day payment!!
Tuesday 18th arrived and no payment in my account in the morning, however the offer payment did arrive in my account later that afternoon. The courtesy payment however, was nowhere to be seen. I checked again on the 19th and again on the 20th - nothing!!
I tried to call the supervisor but got no response, so I sent another email to question where my courtesy payment was. I did get a reply stating "We have issued payments as normal however a banking error is preventing this going through. We have been advised this should be resolved soon and the funds should arrive by 5pm tomorrow"
Nothing, na-da, diddly squat!!!
By now it was Friday evening and O2 Recycle are not open at the weekend, so there was nothing I could do. No money appeared in my account on Christmas Eve and I next tried to contact O2 on 27th December after the Christmas break. I have left messages, sent emails and am now feeling very ignored. The courtesy payment is not a large one, but it would more than cover a couple of packs of nappies and some baby wipes and it is the principle more than anything now!
The funny thing was, hubby has also upgraded his phone and when I received my revised offer I thought I would see how much they would offer for his phone (exactly the same spec as mine) - they offered my revised offer amount!! Coincidence???
So beware of using these recycle sites - I wish I hadn't bothered now!

It's Rubbish
Every year I moan!
Every year I complain to the council - but nothing is ever done about it!
Our refuse collections are dire over the Christmas period, a time when most households produce at least twice as much rubbish than they would normally!!
We have a small black bin for normal rubbish, and despite my requests for a larger one they refuse - instead sending me another small one with a chip. We do have a larger blue bin for recycling, but collections are bi-weekly so that's always full to bursting too.
My last black bin collection was Tuesday 18th December, meaning the next one was due on Christmas Day. Obviously the bin men were off (I'd expect that), but you would have thought the local council would organise a catch up collection - no, they give them all annual leave between Christmas and New Year.
My next collection falls on New Years Day, so guess what - no collection, which means I am going three weeks without one. My porch is filling up already and I am already contemplating stealing hubby's car and taking a load down the tip, but why should I??
We pay through the nose for our services by way of council tax. Already they have implemented an extra charge for having a green bin too (garden waste) which I really begrudge paying as it was always a free service before.
Both previous years we have had similar issues and collections were cancelled due to snow and ice, which is ridiculous. I know we only have these issues once a year, but it still really really gets my goat!!
Do other people have a similar issue, or is it just me?

Christmas - Done!
Well, that is it - Christmas done and dusted for another year and it was back to earth with a rather large bump, when hubby's alarm went off at 6.15am this morning as he had to go back to work! (Who in their right mind wants to kitchen shopping at 7am on Boxing Day morning?)
Anyway, apart from an unexpected but very welcome guest which meant a bit of last minute rushing around and a spot of illness, it all went off without a hitch.
We now have a house full of more toys, and I have no idea where we are going to put them. Some serious re-jigging will be occurring once the Christmas tree is down, that's for sure!
So, I bring you a few highlights!
This was by far the favourite toy of the day for a certain young man, and he even forgot that he had more presents to open.
Eliza adores her very own kitchen, although hubby was moaning that he now has to clear up two kitchens instead of one!
Someone no longer has to steal his Dad's coat!
It has taken months of saving, and we were mean making him wait, but he has his laptop!!
Peace and quiet for Room on the Broom!

Leaving out the carrot, full fat milk and mince pie that Santa requested on our visit to him at Marwell!
And now it's bedtime..........nanight xx

He's Behind You!
Yesterday we went to the local Panto!
"Oh no you didn't!" I hear you cry.
"Oh yes we did!" we reply.
As a Bournemouth local, Chris Jarvis of CBeebies fame always stages our local pantomime and does a fantastic job of it. This year we were treated to Sue Pollard (Hi-De-Hi), Colin Baker (Dr Who & fresh from the jungle) and Asa Elliott (Benidorm).
We were quite surprised that the theatre wasn't full, but it was the last day of term for many, and even we had had to rush from school straight down to Bournemouth and only just made it in time!
The lights dimmed, the music started playing on on flew Fairy Sparkle to introduce the story. Both Isaac and Eliza were in awe that a fairy was actually flying around the stage (on carefully hidden wires), whilst other fairies were singing and dancing around her.
Next came baby Rose's Christening where the fairies all gave the baby their magic gifts, with some added modern and local humour that had the adults chuckling away and the BOOM - in came Bad Fairy Carabow (Sue Pollard). She loved playing up to the audience and had us all Booing and hissing at her antics.
Fast forward 18 years to Princess Rose's 18th birthday thanks to some Fairy magic and brilliant special effects, we then met Happy Harry (Chris Jarvis). As you would expect, he had the children eating out of his hand, arriving with Makka Pakka on his Og-Pog. Lots of CBeebies references kept the little ones happy, which were mixed in with some fantastic impressions and local humour. When he arrived on the stage for the rest of the show, he shouted "Hiya Gang" to which we had to reply "Hiya Harry" with our thumbs aloft.
Next up we met the King who decided to give us a speech which Harry said was boring, so it then turned into a rap and then Gangnam style, which had Kian bouncing around in his seat.
Next came the grown up Princess Rose and soon after Prince Asa Hearts of Benidorm. If I am honest, I didn't really warm to these two and I am not sure if it is because I don't watch Benidorm, but he kept bursting into random bits of song!
Also up was Nurse Nelly (Colin Baker), whom apart from the I'm a Celebrity jokes that I didn't get (I didn't watch it) was absolutely brilliant as Nurse Nelly!! A proper Pantomime Dame!!
We met Bad Fairy Carabow a few more times and booed and hissed at her trying to get the Princess to prick her finger on the spindle of the spinning wheel, but I don't feel she was as evil and nasty as she could have been. Eventually she succeeded and it was time for a much needed break.
I am not sure what happened in the break, but the second half was like a completely different Pantomime. It picked up speed, we laughed, we shouted, we booed and gasped in amazement at some of the special effects. It really was fantastic - even Prince Asa Hearts started to grow on me.
However, the real stars of the show were Chris Jarvis and Colin Baker - they really do make a fantastic double act when they are on the stage together and really made the show for me! I like a proper Pantomime villain and Sue Pollard just didn't quite do it.
Still, it was a fab family outing and the kids loved it - that's the main thing!

Last week we took advantage a one nice day and headed to Poole Park to feed the ducks and enjoy the fresh air.
Whilst we were there we saw a small petting farm area, where we met some, pigs, reindeer and a couple of turkey's. I wonder what the conversation was between these two?

Blurb Photo Book
When I was first asked to review a Blurb photo book, I jumped at the chance and knew exactly what I would be making with it.
My 12 year old son Kian, was a player escort at Wembley back in 2011 and although I had previously made a photo book for him, it hadn't come out as planned and I was really disappointed with the quality.
With Blurb, you can make all sorts of photo books from Instagram to Travel, Baby to Family - the list goes on, so with all the changes to Instagram, now is the time to do it!!
If I am honest, I had a nightmare doing my Blurb book initially, but it was my own fault. I tried to run before I could walk and started doing a template designed for more experienced users. After some fantastic (and very patient) help from their team, I started again from the beginning and used their basic templates, which were more than adequate for my needs.
The website lets you crop and resize you photos and I had a couple of instances where I played too much so the pictures were not good enough quality, but the website tells you, and gives you another warning before you check out. I simply just replaced the photos as found it too much hassle to try re-sizing them again!
Here is my front cover:
You can choose your pages colours, the paper quality and how many pictures you would like per page, and I am so pleased with the results. My photographs do not do it justice at all!
The colours are sharp, the pictures are clear and having gone for a hardback version I know this book is going to last for years!!

My Festive Playlist
I do love a good festive tune and when I saw the Brit Mums Festive Playlist linky, sponsored by the Cocoa Cola designated driver campaign, I just had to join in!!
First on my list is my FAVOURITE Christmas song ever!! Brought to our attention by Chris Moyles on his Radio 1 Breakfast show, this song is guaranteed to get the whole family bouncing, singing (badly) and safe in the knowledge that Christmas is almost here. It is of course Dominic the Donkey (Jigitty Jig, hee haw, hee-haw)

It is of course Dominic the Donkey (Jigitty Jig, hee haw, hee-haw)
My second choice is Jingle Bells by Michael Buble and the Puppini sisters. I adore this version of the song, with a 40's twist. It gives me a real festive lift and makes me smile, sing and want to get up and dance whenever I hear it.
The third one is a fairly recent addition and we instantly fell in love with it when it was first aired in 2009. We downloaded it straight away and it is always on our Christmas playlist. Throwing in a bit of attitude when you sing the lyrics (its especially good for the teenage members of the family!!). It is of course - Shut Up and Let it Snow by The Ting Tings.
My fourth choice is pretty much always top of the Christmas charts, and is perfect for some good old Christmas karaoke! I have been brought up with this song and it never gets old. How could you not love a song with the lyrics - You´re a bum you´re a punk, You´re an old slut on junk, Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed. You scumbag you maggot, You cheap lousy faggot, Happy christmas your arse I pray god it´s our last. - Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl
And finally, let me take you back to Christmas 1985 when I was 10 years old and the first Christmas single I ever bought. The title says it all........ Merry Christmas Everyone, by the one and only Shakin' Stevens. Brilliant, just brilliant *does a happy dance*
Men and Christmas Shopping
I am not sure how many men read my blog, but after speaking to hubby last night it is perfectly clear that he has not even thought about Christmas presents yet!
Sometimes I think men only get married so they have someone to write their Christmas cards, do their Christmas shopping and wrap the presents (OK, that is probably going a bit far, but I know hubby expects me to do the lions share)!
So, Men - if you are looking for a Christmas present for your better half, you have less than a week to find something! Hopefully you have been listening to thestrong subtle hints your lady has been giving you, probably for the last few months, just to make sure that it has registered in your brain and sunk in.
If you haven't, well, you are almost beyond help.
I find Diamonds always go down well, maybe some perfume too - make her feel like a Princess!
If you insist on buying underwear (no Hubby, if you are reading this, this is NOT a hint), please follow these basic rules!!

Away In A Manger
Isaac's Christmas Nativity feels quite late in relation to many others, and it feels like I have been looking forward to it forever.
After a little confusion as to what Isaac had been cast as, we finally managed to organise his King costume just in time.
Why they couldn't get ready before school and come to school in their costumes confounds me, but we followed rules and came to school in uniform and I stayed to get him changed.
You could feel the excitement in the air in the classroom, and left the teachers to try and calm their exuberant charges, whilst we got in an orderly queue for the best seats in the house.
We watched as Years Reception up to Year 2 all piled in in their various costumes, and so we began.......
I managed to get a little recorded footage, but completely missed Isaac's impromptu ad lib which had the whole audience in stitches - it is the second time he has done this and I wouldn't be surprised if we found him on stage as a stand-up comedian when he is older, such is his comedic timing!!

The whole nativity was brilliant - although some of the children were hard to hear, but you expect that. The highlight of the whole performance was the children singing Away in a Manger - I may have shed a tear or two.
I must give a special mention to Eliza too, who sat through the whole performance like a good girl, with some dancing thrown in when they were singing!!
Epic Mickey 2 - The Power of Two
If you have younger children who love their gaming consoles, like Isaac, you cannot go wrong with a good Disney game.
This years offering is Epic Mickey 2 - The Power of Two centers on intertwined themes of creation and destruction. Wielding a magical paintbrush, Disney's mascot runs through the crumbling Wasteland, conjuring pieces to make whole the fragmented land or erasing the few structures that still stand tall. Relationships are forged while others are shattered, and it's your choice whether you breathe life into Wasteland or let it sink further into disrepair. Lovable characters and iconic imagery urge you to take the high road, to create rather than destroy the elements that make up this magical kingdom, but it's impossible to escape the all-encompassing reach of destruction.
The game sounds fun and exciting and is rated from age 6+, so perfect for younger ones who love 3D game play. It is also one of the few games to be released for the Wii U this Christmas, so if you are investing in this new console, it would be the perfect addition to a Christmas stocking.
Epic Disney 2 is also available on XBox 360, Wii, PS3 and 3DS.

Room on the Broom
There is nothing I like better after Christmas dinner than to sit down with my feet up, and watch some good old family entertainment on the TV.
The last couple of years it has been The Gruffalo and then The Gruffalo's child, which have gone on to become much loved family short films (in fact I can probably recite them word for word).
This year is no exception, and one of my favourite Julia Donaldson books has been chosen - Room on the Broom!
The animation looks very similar to that of The Gruffalo, so I just know we are going to love it.
Room On The Broom is broadcast on Christmas Day, BBC1, 4.35PM.
I already have it set to record, so make sure you set your Sky / Virgin / Freeview Box as I am sure you won't want to miss it either!
In the meantime, why not have a look at their website http://roomonthebroom. com/, where there are lots of fun activities and an exclusive trailer to watch!!
You can also follow them on twitter at @ROTB_Film and like them on facebook for more news and activities.

I wanted to know a bit more about Tony, so here is (part of) my interview, so you can learn a little more about the man himself.
Who
is Tony Morris?
Tony was born on 12th September 1978 and was brought
up in Hertfordshire. He graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with
a 2:1 Business Studies (HONS) degree and then went travelling around the world
for a year. He has always been involved in sales roles and set up the Sales
Doctor, a sales training company, in May 2006, alongside his father in law Boyd
Mayover.
How
did you get involved in Sales Training?
In my first sales job where I was selling utilities business to
consumer for Sitel, the largest outsourced call centre, I was very successful
on the phone. After a couple of months, part of my role was to train every new
telesales executive how to cold call and persuade people to switch their
utilities. My patience and understanding were my two contributing factors to my
success in helping people get better.
What
made you decide to write your book?
Every sales trainer I aspire to is an author. Therefore I felt
in order to progress in my career and build my credibility it was a natural
stepping stone. I actually found it a really enjoyable and relaxing experience.
Who
are the hardest people to sell to?
Definitely not sales people, they are by far the easiest to sell
to in my experience. I would say middle aged consumers who have been around the
block and had some bad experiences with pushy and irritating sales people are
the hardest, as you are starting off on a back foot.
What
is your biggest sale?
It was a £258,000 sale to BNP Paribas when I sold address
management software. It was a five year contract and it took me four months to
close. The sickening part was they cancelled the contract on the 29th
day of the 30 day cancellation period. This was the best sales lesson I have experienced
to date and I explain it in detail in Chapter 3 of my book.
What
is the strangest thing you have had to sell?
Encyclopaedias in Australia.
What
makes a bad salesperson?
Someone who confuses tenacity with pushiness and desperation.
Someone who doesn’t listen to the prospects needs and is just out for a quick
sale.
Who
is your book aimed at?
Anyone who is involved in sales. This can range from a junior
sales person, a more experienced sales person, a sales manager, a sales
director or a business owner. It is beneficial for any person interested in
self development.
He also has funny story to share which is brilliant, but a little too long to add to this post, so I promise I will bring it to you in the new year!
In the meantime, Tony has offered me a copy of his book - Coffee's for Closers to giveaway on your choice of format (E-Book or Paperback), perfect to help you get the best out of the January sales!

Team Skylanders
I am not sure if I have told you this before, but my boys ADORE Skylanders (I may have mentioned it one, or two, or three times), so you can imagine how excited they were when Tots100 launched their Join Team Skylanders competition.
Isaac (age 4), is the biggest Skylanders fan of them all and plays it almost daily on the Wii. As he is fairly little, he often demands help from his big brothers or Daddy and they can often be found playing it long after he is fast asleep in bed, although sometimes Kian hides away in his room playing his own copy on the DS!!
Here is Isaac's Skylander drawing of his new character "The Emperor! - A Penguin.
| The Emperor, by Isaac age 4 |
The Emperor is a giant Penguin who can shoot magical poisoned darts from the feathers on his head and when he stamps his feet, the earth shakes violently, knocking his opponents over. The Emperor fights best on ice, where he can be seen whizzing down mountains on his tummy, like a bobsleigh or in the water where he is fast and graceful.
Next up is Callan (aged 15) entry - "Venom"
![]() |
| Venom, by Callan age 15 |
Venom is a brightly coloured snake who can spit venom from her mouth which instantly paralyses her victims for a few seconds so she can get the upper hand (or should that be tail). She uses her hat to disguise her hypnotic eyes, but beware those he see them - she will soon have you playing for her team!!
Finally, Kian (aged 12) - Bruiser
| Bruiser, by Kian age 12 |
Bruiser is a two headed creature which when you place him on the portal of power says "Are you Cruisin' for a Bruisin'?" He can breathe fire from one head and ice from the other and has a real sting in his scorpion like tail. Beware - if he is really angry, he goes into a spin and creates a fire and ice vortex!
I cannot wait to see all the other entries!!
Where are your manners?
As some of you are aware I am doing a Childcare NVQ3 course.
One of our topics last week was our own personal beliefs about the way we bring up our children and how could affect childcare.
I am not talking about religion, this is how I bring my children up.
For example:
I HATE DUMMIES!
I am not talking about for babies, as even though my own children never had them, I know for some they have their place.
I think my aversion to them started when my friend at the time used to let her daughter have a dummy all the time - just to keep her quiet. It got so bad that this child had a dummy at school until she was 6!
We don't have dummies in the house unless it is nap time as I find it impedes conversation, and frankly they don't need them (and don't ask for them). It all started as Eliza used to go around stealing them, and now it is a routine to hand them over straight away.
I HATE BAD MANNERS!
My children have been brought up to say please and thank you, hold doors open and generally be polite. I find it totally shocking that some children (and adults) refuse to do this.
I cannot count the amount of times I have had to push through a door backwards dragging a buggy behind me because the person in front of me just pushed on through and let the door spring back in my face, but it is the lack please's and thank you's that really bugs me. How difficult is it really to say?
It isn't just children either - the supermarket cashier that just says "thats £76.40".........where's the "please"? I do find myself saying "please" or "thank you" to finish off a sentence for people, which is often met with a blush.
TABLE MANNERS!
What has happened to table manners these days?
My pet hate is elbows on the tables and it seems rife!! I remember my parents literally bellowing at me if I put my elbows on the table or held them out a right angles, so I was nudging the person next to me. Oh, and holding a knife and fork properly - don't get me started, it isn't difficult.
And..........clearing up behind you! I always expect my older children to take their plates and cups out to the kitchen. If one of the older kids has a friend to stay, then I expect them to do it too, and the numbers of times I have to tell them to do it astounds me.
It also really bugs me (and the staff I'm sure) in MacDonalds when people don't clear the table they have just been sat at. It is easy to do, you simply load your tray and pop the contents in one of the numerous bins provided!
Do you agree - have table manners disappeared, where have please and thank you disappeared to? What else can you add?
I look forward to reading your comments.

Win a Pair of Tickets to the London Dungeons
It has been 4 years since we last went to the London Dungeons but I remember the experience vividly as it was not what I was expecting, but so much better.
Inside was dark and eerie, with spooky tales of Sweeney Todd, Jack the Ripper, The Great Fire of London and many more.
Now there is even more to do and see and with one ticket you will experience:
- 14 shows on your 90 minute tour
- Live actors and special effects
- 3 exciting rides
- 1,000 years of London's history
I love the look of the new 5D ride called Vengeance, which has you completely disorientated in the dark and spinning at high speeds, riders will shoot it out with twisted, vengeful ghosts in London, whilst facing their full destructive force!
The lovely people at London Dungeons have given me a pair of tickets worth £48 to give away to my readers, which are valid until January 2014, so you can use them when you choose. Please be aware that London Dungeons are not suitable for children under 4 years old (and I would recommend a lot older).
