Mrs MacCready was ever so Greedy – Book Review

I was sent Mrs MacCready was ever so Greedy, by Julie Fulton, to review and found a great book which the kids enjoy that also carries a good message about eating healthily.

The book is illustrated beautifully on nice thick paper, which is perfect for little hands.  It tells the tale of Mrs MacCready who likes her food a little too much and the consequences that come of it, but all worded with rhyme.  Each page has just four lines which is perfect for children learning to read.
“Mrs MacCready is ever so greedy.
Her neighbours do what they can,
but she gets bigger and bigger till nothing will fit her.
And then… everything ends with a BANG!”
Mrs MacCready was ever so Greedy
It is a really fun way of introducing the idea of healthy eating and exercise to pre-school and primary age children.  Isaac really enjoyed the story which flowed beautifully and used lots of wonderful descriptive language.  There are some words are written in capital letters so you really emphasise them as you read, which makes the book even more fun.
Isaac was able to explain why Mrs MacCready got big when she ate too much food, and how she should have gone out to exercise.  He found it particularly amusing that even a tent wouldn’t fit her at the end of the story.
If you are after a book that is lots of fun to read and has a good message, then this has to be it!
