If you are familiar with my blog, then you know that I love to review days out.
Nothing pleases me more than activities that are completely free for the whole family and if I am honest these are very very rare these days.
One of my annual highlights is Bournemouth Air Festival and we always make sure we have booked holidays from work for this event. What’s more is that it is completely FREE!!!
This year the event is running from the 30th August until the 2nd September and it is going to be bigger and better than previous years. There will be the impressive aerial displays as always and I am most looking forward to seeing the Red Arrows, Tornado and The Vulcan. There will also be naval beach assaults, which are always thrilling to watch, parachutes and Night Air makes it’s return. This year we have two firework displays – one on Friday night in remembrance of Flt Lt Jon Egging who sadly lost his life at last years Air Show, and the normal display on the Saturday night.
In addition, there will be two live music stages this year, with the likes if Rizzle Kicks and Newton Faulkner performing.
In addition to all this, the entire stretch of promenade from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe Pier will be crammed with stalls, ranging from charities, to the armed forces to local businesses. The armed forces bring with them inflatable assault courses, climbing walls, tanks, helicopters etc etc – plenty to see and do on the ground as well as in the air – you can even get out on the sea and take a tour of RFA Mounts Bay.
If you truly are a plane geek, they even have a viewing area at Bournemouth airport too, or you can make your own models in the Airkix tent which is normally found in the square. Beware of the strong glue smell though!
If this doesn’t whet your appetite, then just have a look at some of my pictures from previous years below.
