Retro Space Invader Gifts – Review

If you are anything like me, you will be on a budget for Christmas presents, but still like to do Christmas Stockings for the older children and your partner, but with useful items rather than just padding it out with anything you can find.

My husband and two older boys cannot get enough of computer games, and he is forever telling them how much fun he used to have on his Atari / Super Nintendo and Sega Mega Drive.  In fact the Mega Drive has made an appearance from the loft and is currently being put through its paces.

When I was invited to review some Retro Space Invader goodies from Play.com how could I say no?

Colour Changing Space Invaders Mug

Space Invaders Colour Changing Mug

My idea for this one was to give it to my husband, as Space Invaders was his era, but my 12 year old son Kian spotted it and claimed ownership straight away.  When I explained he doesn’t drink tea or coffee he replied “Well I do have Hot Chocolate!” – that told me!!

When cold the mug has a few coloured Space Invaders, but the majority of the mug is black.  Add some Hot Chocolate (or hot drink of your choice) and voila – a mug covered in large and small Space Invaders!

This is a very popular mug in our family, with each of the older kids clamouring to use it and the quality is good too, so I would definitely invest in another.  The only downside is that it cannot be put in the dishwasher!  Priced at £6.99 it would make the perfect stocking filler, Secret Santa or friend that has everything gift!!

Space Invader Wallet and Cufflink Set

Again, this has been snaffled by Kian, who wanted a more grown up wallet.  It is a leather look material with plenty of space for cards and notes, but no space for change?  It always makes me wonder why men’s wallets don’t come with a zipped area for change??

Personally I would buy the wallet separately as cufflinks are very rarely worn in this house and was pleased to find that they are both available to buy separately on the Play.com website.
I am not sure if I should admit that I have snaffled this away as a stocking filler for my 4 year old in the hope that it will encourage him to save his pennies!
The money box is bright, colourful and very noisy – perfect for my 4 year old, although I know I will have to keep it out of reach otherwise he will be posting everything he can into it to hear it make a noise!

Why not have a look at the website for more Space Invader goodies as they have so many other items from phone cases to bottle openers and even T-Shirts and Hoodies (which have massive savings on them if you are quick!)
