I don’t know about you, but all more boys seem to have an obsession with Zombies!
I am not sure if it is computer games, TV or school influence but Zombies are everywhere. Even Daddy and I rather like Walking Dead, although that is strictly for adult viewing only.
I digress, Gorgeous George and the Zigzag Zit-Faced Zombies is a book aimed at children 9+ and is the action packed, bogie dribbling follow up to Gorgeous George and the Giant Geriatric Generator.
Sneezing, sniffing, snogging and snots! Zombies, zebra’s and zits!
A chemical experiment by the military has gone wrong and the toxins are now airborne. The pupils of Little Pumpington Primary School are breathing in the gas and their behaviour is becoming bonkers.
The story brings back my favourite colourful character Grandpa Jock who along with George and his sidekick Allison must thwart the new menace – the Zigzag Zit face Zombies, who like feast on bogies – YUK.
The story opens in a wonderfully descriptive page that sets the eerie scene up really well. The accompanying pictures by Calvin Innes are fantastic too and help break up the text that some children can find too much.
Kian adored this book mostly because it is disgusting, although has strongly advised reading it just before dinner as it will put you off your food. I have been reliably informed that they are called Zigzag Zit faced Zombies because they stagger across the room in a zigzag fashion and are covered in spots.
The Zombies live for “Bogggggggiiiiiiieeeeeeesssssss!!!”
In fact almost the whole book has references to snot, of various forms, whether wiped on a sleeve, in a tissue or in a “Snot Box”.
I cannot tell if George saves the day, as if I am honest I felt a little ill even reading snippets…….however, it really did appeal to Kian who kept Isaac enthralled reading out little snippets of only the grossest of information.
I did love the disclaimer on the back though –
Parents will not be able to read this book. This book is for strong-stomached children only so no wimps need apply. This is last taboo known to mankind and way beyond the comprehension of adults. The older you are, the yuckier the book will be. You have been warned!
Gorgeous George and the Zigzag Zit faced Zombies is released in January 2013 – read it at your peril!!
