Sid’s Show – A Review

Last weekend we made the journey from Bournemouth to Fareham to see Sid’s Show and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Accompanying me were Eliza (2), Isaac (4), Mollie (4) and Kian (12).  The atmosphere as we walked into the theatre was electric, and there were lots of little people excitedly awaiting Sid’s arrival.  We also found something on the floor, which all became apparent later on in the show.

The set is based around Sid’s colourful bedroom and he bounds onto the stage to the CBeebies Number rap full of enthusiasm.  Soon after he is getting the audience to join him with a song with actions about getting dressed.  There is just something about Sid that gets everyone joining in straight away without the need for much encouragement!

Sid slips in a few more popular kids songs throughout his performance to keep the show as interactive as possible and he soon introduces his incredibly cute dog Fuzzy, which both girls adored!

Sid soon realises he cannot find his socks and shoes and here the adventure begins.  He travels far and wide to find his socks, but all in your imagination…….. the lighting changes and little things you didn’t notice before about his bedroom set suddenly transport you off to somewhere exciting, with the aid of his trusty cardboard box.  We were in a hot air balloon, a submarine underwater, on a beach and even in a rocket flying through space!

The first half of the show lasted half an hour, and at the end of the first half, the little something we had found had to be taken to a very special birthday girl, Ruby, by the stage (I can’t tell you what as it will give too much away).  It was bedlam if I’m honest as there were people trying to take a comfort break or get refreshments at the same time.

The second half soon started and we were transported off to Sid’s imaginary world again.  This half featured the kids favourite interactive song, which they still sing and do the actions to now (again – spoilers) and thankfully Sid did find his socks and shoes in the end!  The whole show was an hour, with a 15 minute break, so perfect for little ones.

What impressed me most was that Sid kept the kids enthralled from beginning to end and they still talk about the show now.  I found Eliza playing in a cardboard box at the weekend, pretending it was a submarine!

We even got to meet Sid and get his autograph!!

The only merchandise on sale was his “Storytime with Sid” CD, priced at £7, which the kids listened to all the way home and several times since.

The CD is a compilation of some of Sid reading some of favourite stories, with some music and sound effects and our favourite is “A Fish Wish”.
