Costcutters Education Supplies – The Insect Lore Living Stick Experiment & Ladybird Tower

Being a Childminder and a parent, I can find that educational toys can be expensive and a real challenge to find.

I have recently been introduced to Costcuttersuk.com who are an established, family business with over 30 years experience in the education business.

Their website is bulging with so many products, all set out in easy to locate tabs meaning you visit to look at one thing and get drawn to many others, but the best thing is they are often the cheapest.

Last year I did the Insect Lore Butterfly experiment with the kids and they got so much out of it I wanted to do something similar this year.  I spotted the Insect Lore Living Twig – Stick Insect Kit on their site and comparing it with other stockists, they were by far the cheapest – even compared to Amazon!

The kit arrived with a couple of days and I have now sent off for my Indian Stick Insect eggs which will hopefully arrive within a few days so we can get going.  I am looking forward to sharing our results with you.

The other item I found, which I was searching for all last summer is the Ladybird Tower so I ordered one of those too.

Both Isaac and Eliza adore Ladybirds and we often go hunting for them in plants or grass in the summer.  This natural habitat is constructed from solid Birch, Oak or Larch timber for durability.

It comes with a ground pole at the bottom so is easy to site in your lawn, flowerbed or even planters.  I couldn’t believe how easy it was – hubby had visions of attaching to the garden shed!

We have yet to see Gaston and his friends move in, but it is fun to check daily with the kids and we cannot wait for our first guest to move in!

If you are looking for toys with that educational edge, definitely give CostcuttersUK a visit.  I have bookmarked their site for the future.

  1. I’ll never forget bringing a Stick Insect home from school one year – my teacher used to breed them and as he had one left, he sent it home with me to partner up with my other one. Big mistake! My mum had put them in a fish tank (with little holes in the lid so they could breathe) and I used to trim our pivete bush for food for them.

Within a couple of weeks they started mating (without us realising) and soon we had baby ones – which we seemed to find on our living room walls, as the holes in the tank were big enough for the babies to get through! We had a few weeks of finding them in random places – the funniest was finding one in the printer, thankfully before we used it!

I loved keeping them though, and the way they seemed to dance (sway) everytime I put music on!

    Have fun 🙂

    • Have to admit I was slightly concerned when I read the instructions and it said they would live for a year and would breed. At least you let the butterflies go………still, must be easier than a dog!! lol
