Bournemouth Family Festival 2013

We were a little disappointed by Bournemouth Family Festival 2012 but decided we would visit again this year to see what it had to offer and the fact that it was free entry made it more appealing.

Kian wasn’t keen on going and made sure we were aware how unhappy he was about going on the bus to Meyrick Park whilst the little ones amused the rest of the passengers with renditions of The Wheels on the Bus and 5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer.

The first thing Isaac wanted to do was get his face painted.  The unusual thing about this is that he HATES his face being painted, but not today and because Isaac had his done Eliza wanted it too.

The event was full of organisations and businesses, some just giving away leaflets and others arranging activities for the kids including music and dance workshops, arts & crafts and competitions.  Bouncy castles, roundabouts and zorbing balls were avoided as they were expensive but the kids had great fun nonetheless………especially with the firehose and the dog who was chasing the water.

This year Titan the Robot was replaced by Stavros Flatley and although I may have been disappointed by this revelation, the truth is that they were really rather good.  They got the crowd going, made some very good music choices and even got the Dorset Troopers up on stage performing YMCA.

Probably the highlight of the day for us was meeting up with Ben from @jurassiccoastin who was working with Guy from Studland Sea School and Michael from Go Canoeing promoting kayaking around Studland Bay.  I have to say it looks great fun and I cannot wait to get booked in to try it myself.

In the meantime the kids tested their canoe skills on some static machines and we even watched Stavros Flatley have a race on them too.

I personally think that Abbey and Isaac racing Kian are far more amusing……….

Whilst Bournemouth Family Festival didn’t have the lure of the likes of LolliBop, the kids enjoyed themselves and that’s the main thing!
