The new production is being adapted and directed by the award-winning Matt Aston and scored by highly acclaimed composer Julian Butler, bringing to life the magical story of a penguin who dreams of flying and the boy who tries to help him. Ignoring the boy’s advice that it is impossible, the penguin leaves his friend to go searching for a chance to get his feet off the ground and, when the penguin needs him most, the boy is there to catch him. Up & Down is a funny yet touching story about the importance of friendship and reaching for one’s dreams, which speaks to all ages.

The production will marry traditional theatre with modern technology, incorporating the cinema screen, where live action will be integrated with projections based on illustrations from the book. This will bring the book to life in a highly innovative way while remaining true to its original spirit. It will be a multi-sensory theatrical experience bringing together music, interactive props and creative lighting to keep all members of the family absorbed, from babies upwards.

Ga Ga Theatre will re-think the way theatre is experienced by both children and adults, making it a regular part of children’s lives and not a rare outing with the hassle and stress that it can involve. Taking place at six Picturehouse cinemas across London, Ga Ga Theatre will make high quality productions accessible on a local level to children and families in London. The production is suitable for babies and children up to 7 years, but everyone is welcome. The intention is to provide an enriching, inspiring and fun experience, where parents can enjoy the show themselves and relax knowing their children are being stimulated and entertained. Through its productions, Ga Ga Theatre will create memorable childhood experiences which can be shared and enjoyed with their parents, teachers and carers.
