Lets Go Fly A Kite

When I was little we used to live in West Sussex and I used to love heading off to the South Downs to do some Kite flying.

I bought a kite at the beginning of the summer but the weather has been so still that it has been sat in my car looking all forlorn and when I finally got it out to use it, it was broken.  Thankfully the team at Family Camping Reviews had sent me an Outdoor Fun package to review which contained a kite, among lots of other things.

We headed to Whitecliff park in Poole which is set on the harbour side and often has a good breeze for Kite flying.  The weather was dull and there was very little wind, but we found with a bit of running that we could get the kite airborne, albeit not for very long.

Kian was quicker than Isaac so got the Kite to a good height, but Isaac didn’t quite have the speed so we decided to head to the park to wait and see if the wind would pick up.

Also in our Family Camping pack were some chalks, so the kids did some drawing and made their own hopscotch which I have not played for years and several other children joined in with too.

The kids were playing nicely, enjoying the equipment when something amazing happened……

…….. we spotted a Rescue Helicopter overhead.

It came in to land where we had been flying our kite half an hour before.  It soon became clear that there was no patient onboard and we were invited over for a look, whilst they waited for a colleague to join them.

The pilot was really friendly and let the kids have a look inside and answered all Isaac’s questions about the equipment.

He even opened the hatch to show us how patients were loaded in.

It was an experience not to be missed and we excitedly waved when it was time for them to leave.

Once they had gone we noticed the wind had picked up, so we tried the Kite flying again…….this time with far more success!!

Wow – what a day at the park!

  1. OMG I’ve always wanted to check out a helicopter! The kids must have been so excited and to get their kite flying and play hopscotch too. What a day indeed. Thank you so much for sharing with #whatsthestory

  2. I bet the helicopter arriving just made the kids day. Things like that just add that little extra to a day. I hope they don’t expect a helicopter every time they go to fly their kite!
