An Adventure in Wonderland

I have not taken part in #countrykids for a couple of weeks, as all of the children seem to have been ill at one point and we have been stuck indoors, but last Sunday I grabbed a window of opportunity and got out of the house to Adventure Wonderland as they had a Bird of Prey event.

I also took my new DSLR camera in the hope that I would get some fantastic pictures, although it transpires that I still need a lot of practice.

Before seeing the Bird of Prey the kids got to go on all their favourite rides and explore the maze, whilst Abbey and I entertained Sebastian.

They then decided to burn off some energy in the park.  The Zipwire and the swings were a particular favourite, although I do think Abbey is a little big old for the swings now!

It was then time to go and see the birds and kids asked the handlers lots of questions.  I have to admit Bramble was my favourite and we did plot to steal him away and bring him home!

The others were gorgeous too though!

The display was due to start at 2pm, so the boys headed off to get soaked on the Battle Boats, whilst Abbey and Eliza went for the drier YoYo’s.

The bird display was fantastic and the handlers were very knowledgeable and entertaining – it was just the right balance of action and information, which kept the kids enthralled.

We were all rather amused when the Peregrine Falcon was harrassed by a flock of Rooks and gave chase in the middle of the display……..never to be seen again.  He had to retrieved by his handler on the golf course next door!

The Owls were my favourite though!

All the birds were from Liberty’s Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre in nearby Ringwood and I have promised the kids we will visit very soon although I am not sure I am brave enough to handle them myself.

Once we had finished watching the display we headed for cuddle corner, where Sebastian got to meet his first bunny rabbit – can’t say he looked to impressed though!

Isaac then begged and begged to ride a pony.  Somehow we managed to scratch around for £2.50 (why oh why do you have to pay extra for these things), and off he went.

Isaac adores riding and I would love him to have some lessons.  Maybe when I am back to work we will be able to afford some.
We finished off the day with a train ride before heading home, full of fresh air and a new fascination with birds!
