A Very Special CountryKids

We have had a week full of half term fun, so much so that it was tough to decide what was going to be my country kids post.  After some deliberation it became perfectly clear that I should devote it to Fiona – Mrs CoombeMill and countrykids herself.

We were on holiday last week in Newquay and when Fiona found out we were close by she invited us to CoombeMill to meet the family and have a look around.  I have to admit it isn’t the easiest place to find and hubby’s and my satnav were having their own disagreement about the correct route to take but we got there eventually.  The narrow country lanes are an experience in themselves and thankfully we missed the aggregate lorry that Farmer Nick was expecting.

When we arrived I headed to reception, where I was greeted by a very polite young man by the name of Guy, who showed us where to park and took us in to meet Fiona.  We were welcomed with open arms and made to feel instantly at home.  Some coffee and freshly made warm chocolate cake was a hit with everyone.  Fiona then lent us some wellies so we could explore the farm, as someone forgot to put ours in the car (never trust your hubby with these jobs).

First port of call was an indoor play area which was being used as a hang out for slightly older children. When asked if they wanted to come along for a farm tour they all bounded out without a second glance back!

We climbed over the bridge which crosses the river and our first port of call were the piglets that I felt I already knew as I follow the coombemill blog and had seen the pictures of their birth.

Next on the list were the chickens – something Isaac is still talking about now!  Have you ever seen a chicken fly?

They certainly have a good go and even make a good parrot replacement!

But best of all, they are very friendly and like to be held and stroked!

The kids went to explore a higher field with Daddy as it was very muddy and I was worried about slipping over with Sebastian in his baby carrier where they saw wallabies, ducks, goats, donkey’s and even some deer in the trees.  We then headed off around the lake in search of more adventure.

The farms setting is truly stunning and Fiona managed to steal Sebastian for a cuddle so I could get across the ford, which was a little swollen thanks to the recent wet weather.

Whilst Daddy helped the little ones over a style.

We then headed for the play area to burn of any remaining energy before the long drive home helping Fiona collect some of the Halloween decorations from the previous days festivities.

It has certainly made us want to visit CoombeMill for a proper holiday so we can be Adventurers for a little longer!

  1. Kara it was a total delight to finally meet you all and having cuddle with little Sebastian was my highlight! I love to see the farm from someone elses perspective, and despite the dampness of the day you make it look a real adventure here. It will be amazing to have you stay for a proper holiday, ride on the tractor each day and join the train rides. I think the children will really have a ball. Thank you for a lovely post and a perfect entry to Country Kids!
