The Art of Packing

Normally I am really organised when it comes to packing suitcases or bags, whether it be the kids having a night away with Nanny or a family holiday.  In fact, I normally pack the week before and then unpack and check again and again.

Last week we went to Trevella Park and I don’t think I have ever been quite so disorganised in my life.  Firstly, we had a weather warning for bad weather the day we supposed to travel so I (wrongly) assumed we wouldn’t be travelling until Tuesday.  Secondly, hubby didn’t get our battered old cases out of the loft until the Monday morning so I was a little flustered.

I managed to squeeze all our clothing for the week into two suitcases and two trunki’s and was quite pleased with myself, especially as Eliza and Sebastian are still in nappies and I had to fit them in too, which just left hubby to load the car.

Sebastian woke from his nap wanting food, so I left hubby to load the car………

NEVER TRUST A MAN TO DO A JOB WITHOUT CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS

I told him what cases to put in the car and asked Kian to put the wellies by the front door so they didn’t get forgotten and reminded him to pick up the raincovers which were in the hall.

Once Sebastian had been changed and fed I gave upstairs a quick reconnaissance survey to find the boys case still sat in the middle of their bedroom, so hubby had to repack the car to fit it in, but I thought that was all that had been missed.  Once we had arrived at our destination I discovered that hubby had

  • taken out a new packet of nappies I had deliberately left in the car “just in case” (it turned out we needed them)
  • left the wellies by the front door (Kian is partially to blame for this one too)
  • not packed the rain covers
  • moaned that I hadn’t packed him shoes
Thankfully I managed to remember everything else, apart from Sebastian’s fleecy sleepsuit which we didn’t actually need anyway.

Before our next holiday we desperately need to find some quality luggage at discount prices  so we can replace the set were we bought over a decade ago and I will be supervising the loading of the car.

Sadly they don’t do Trunki’s for adults but I do rather fancy these very bright members carry on luggage – we certainly won’t lose these cases in a hurry!
