I am not ashamed to tell you that I spend far to much time online, not to the extent I neglect my family but probably more than the average person.
You can often find me on twitter using my phone in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning whilst I am feeding Sebastian and I pick it up in the day when I sit down for a cuppa or after the kids have gone to bed. I love Instagram too, seeing what everyone has got up to during the day and sharing our adventures if there is a 3G signal (I get annoyed when there isn’t). I am not so keen on the food pictures though as they always put my meals to shame.
I used instagram to share the Stick Man Trail at Moors Valley |
It does make me wonder what we did before the internet?
I remember getting our first email address on our NTL box about 14 years ago. We got a keyboard which connected to it so we could write and receive emails……..it was very exciting at the time and I remember joining a couple of online parenting forums when Kian was a baby, but it was such a faff to get online I rarely bothered – plus it blocked the landline phone because there was no such thing as wireless, so people couldn’t phone you.
It is so much easier nowadays with smartphones and broadband. I was quite surprised to learn that 50% of women use a second device while watching TV, until I realised that is exactly what I do. I do most of my online shopping on my phone, although I do get frustrated when some websites don’t support that type of browsing. I even blog on my phone, although I rarely publish from there as I like to tinker with the posts and add photo’s on the computer.
Apps have made things so much easier too. The kids can play games, hubby can post a gazillion pictures to his pinterest boards and I can do my bargain hunting online. I refuse to pay full price for an item, especially if it is pricey so will hunt down the cheapest option I can find. I then use flubit.com to get it cheaper still, although I have actually beaten them a couple of times.
It is just so easy to get online these days with a phone or tablet – a simple click and your emails are there and if you are having a bad day there is always someone that will pick you back up and reassure you that it happens to them too. I wouldn’t be without the internet now and have to thank it for some amazing opportunities and helping me meet some fabulous friends!
How often do you use your phone / tablet when watching TV?

We have a PC so I don’t have that luxury!
