My Perfect Christmas Day

Christmas is the one day of the year that I don’t mind be woken at 4am but very excited children telling me Father Christmas has filled their stockings to the brim with presents. They all pile into our bed to see what delights Santa has brought this year.

We let the kids enjoy some of their toys whilst we get them and us dressed before heading downstairs for breakfast.  If I am honest we don’t go mad with bacon or sausages as won’t have room for dinner, plus the lure of chocolates is too much for the small people.  The teens tend to go back to bed to get a bit more sleep.

Eliza makes us breakfast with her new kitchen
After breakfast it is time for another present each.  We like to space them out throughout the day as it can be a bit much otherwise, plus it keeps the excitement alive.

Can you tell we dragged him back out of bed
Christmas lunch is as much about the crackers and jokes as it is the food and last year we had great fun seeing how many paper hats could be worn at once whilst they were waiting for their Turkey with all the trimmings.

How many hats is Isaac wearing?
Once all the food has been consumed and we all feel full, the afternoon is all about opening some more presents and sitting down to watch a Christmas classic.  Last year this was the view watching Room on the Broom!
All piled on Daddy’s knee

Christmas evening is where it gets really fun.  It is our family tradition to break out the party games.  Not just any old party games – we play Singstar, Just Dance, Wii Sports and Quiz games.  The neighbours must think we are strangling a cat by the noise coming from our house, but it is great fun and all the kids (and adults) get involved!

I can confirm that watching two grown men trying to perform MC Hammers dance moves to Can’t Touch This is one of the funniest things I have ever seen – sadly I have no photographic evidence as I was laughing too much!

And finally there is the classic family pose with presents and Santa Hats.

It may not be filled with gourmet food and fine wine, but we have good solid family fun and that is was Christmas is about!

Merry Christmas! This post is my entry into the Tots100/Argos 12 Days of Christmas competition.
