On Saturday we were invited to attend a Christmas event with Nintendo, where we got to try out some of Nintendo’s latest games, as well as their fantastic consoles and we even met the main man, Mario!
Nintendo has something for everyone this festive season with a stellar games line up to keep you and your family entertained whether it’s at home or on the move.
The event was set up in a London Flat and which made you feel just like you would if you were playing at home and we were introduced to the Wii U for the very first time and both the boys and I were impressed.
Isaac got started on the Wii U with Lego City, which involved Isaac assuming the identity of Chase McCain, an undercover detective armed with clever disguises. The mission is to put a stop to the fiendish Rex Fury and end his crime wave in LEGO City. As players run, drive and even fly through the city, they’ll use the Wii U GamePad controller as a new police gadget. Isaac was hooked and the Nintendo staff helped him navigate around the City.
Kian is a serious gaming addict, but like Isaac had never played the Wii U, or Zelda. The Wii U is the latest home console from Nintendo is the perfect home entertainment device for the whole family this Christmas, offering something for everyone. Supporting full 1080p HD graphics and featuring the Wii U GamePad, an innovative controller with a 6.2-inch touch screen, motion control, microphone, camera and more – Wii U adds a second screen to the living room allowing families to play games and watch TV at the same time via the Off TV mechanic.
Even the Nintendo helpers couldn’t believe how quickly he picked up the game play and he couldn’t tear himself away. He loved that he could play on the TV, yet switch to the Wii U console if he chose. No need to buy two separate games or consoles anymore!
Kian played The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD which is available on Wii U this Christmas. The timeless classic with its unique “cel-shaded” art style looks better than ever in gorgeous HD and the enhanced game features make this a must-play adventure for new and returning fans alike. Guide Link as he sails the seas in search of his kidnapped sister, discovering lost islands, exploring dungeons, taking on mighty bosses and seeking out the legendary Triforce.
Whilst the boys were playing the Wii U, Eliza was given Animal Crossing to try on the 2DS. If I am honest, when I initially saw the launch of the 2DS I didn’t understand why it would appeal to anyone over the original or 3DS.
The Nintendo 2DS offers additional choice and value into handheld gaming options. The Nintendo 2DS is a streamlined version of the Nintendo 3DS which will play games available for Nintendo 3DS, as well as Nintendo DS in 2D. It retains many of the same hardware features as the Nintendo 3DS including the same Nintendo 3DS gameplay controls, backwards compatibility with the vast existing library of Nintendo DS games, as well as wireless connectivity features such as access to Nintendo eShop as well as StreetPass and SpotPass functionality.
The main difference of the Nintendo 2DS is a new distinctive fixed, slate form design. The new console is designed as an entry point into, or a new way to enjoy the Nintendo handheld experience and is available in two colour combinations, White + Red and Black + Blue, with a Nintendo 2DS Carrying Case (in either Red or Blue) that can be purchased separately. It is perfect for new gamers and there is no worrying that the hinges will be broken by an over-zealous youngster!
Even Seb had a go! |
Eliza was a little young to play, however she soon picked up the basic idea and I am sure she will be demanding one in no time! We did get a little distracted by some cake making, so left the boys to it.
What else would you decorate a Nintendo cake with, other than a Nintendo star!
Once she had finished decorating her cake, she got her face painted with a mushroom.
We finally managed to tear Isaac away from the Wii U and Lego City to get his face painted too. Everyone loved his jumper, so there was only one choice of who is was going to be……..can you guess?
It’s Isaac Mario!!
Isaac was so excited to meet the big man himself too!
Can you tell the difference?
Next it was Isaac’s turn to decorate his cake…..
and add his star.
There were two other rooms set up with games and we found Kian on his own 3DS playing one of the Nintendo helpers at Pokemon X which features new Pokémon types, mega evolutions, a new storyline set in a spectacular 3D world and exciting dynamic battles.
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y allows you to interact with your Pokémon in a whole new way in Pokémon-Amie. Playing and interacting with Pokémon that are in your team by using the Nintendo 3DS system’s Touch Screen will build a stronger bond with them. Building this special bond with your Pokémon in Pokémon-Amie will help you prevail in future battles.
We also had a giggle trying out Wii Sports, although I have to admit it isn’t easy when holding a rather heavy baby. We were then distracted by a fantastic photo booth and some rather funky hats to wear!
Isaac…….
I had a go too!
We managed one final photo before heading off to our second event of the day.
No matter what games you enjoy, Nintendo has something to cater to you this Christmas. Families can play together on SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD and Wii Party U on Wii U, and Nintendo fans will love brand new games in the classic Pikmin, Zelda and Donkey Kong franchises. The kids will be entertained throughout the holiday season with Pokémon X and Pokémon Y on either the Nintendo 3DS or the newly announced Nintendo 2DS as well as super hero spectacular The Wonderful 101 available exclusively on Wii U. Those who want something a little different, can unwind in Animal Crossing: New Leaf or solve brain teasers in Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy on Nintendo 2DS or Nintendo 3DS.
We just need to save for a Wii U now!
Oh, i love those sweet photos of him dressed up with Mario! How sweet! We are looking at tablets etc at the moment for my 5 year old and i didnt even think about the nintendo. I am going to have a look into it now 🙂 Thanks for the review on it 🙂 x
We love our Wii U – so much you can do with it x x
This looks like a fab event – love Issac’s face painted up like that – suits him!
That looks like a really cool day. Now I just need to set up our living room for maximum gaming pleasure!
Brilliant photos, looks like a fab day out. My boys love their Nintendo consoles, although the Wii U didn’t manage to knock the PS4 off the top of the Christmas list, unfortunately!
What a brilliant day out!!! I laughed out loud at Isaac as Mario – so funny and so, so sweet!
