Ways to Add Value to Your Home’s Garden

Most homeowners are looking for ways to add value to their properties. There’s still some uncertainty in the housing market, so doing some decorations or even complete renovations are good ways of ensuring you end up with a return on your investment.

The garden is one of the best places to this, and now we are approaching summer it is the best time to consider what you can do to your home’s outdoor space in order to maximise its potential.

Whilst you aren’t exactly going to want to get a leather sofa put outside, there are some beautiful furniture designs which work brilliantly in the garden and that are durable enough to be exposed to the elements. If you have a patio area, why not add a Rattan collection to give a social space which you can use for gatherings with family and friends in the summer months? Or if you have a long garden, a well-placed wooden bench could allow you to escape from the house when you want a bit of peace and quiet. Of course, you may have to be willing to make this furniture part of the sale of the home when you come to leaving it, so consider pieces that you won’t mind leaving behind.

A well-maintained lawn

Although it may be difficult to make your grass look like the pitch at Wembley, it can really help to sell your garden if the lawn looks like it has been well looked after. Trim it and use fertiliser on a regular basis, and make sure you kill any weeds before they multiply further. Some people go even further to make their lawn look luscious, whilst others just replace the real stuff with some artificial turf. You can find some very realistic offerings these days, but there’s obviously only a minimal amount of work required to keep it maintained throughout the year.

A hot tub

If you have a bit more cash to spare then adding a hot tub to your garden can really see you achieving a high return on your investment. It’s estimated that spending of a couple of thousand pounds could see you adding approximately £10,000 to the value of your home. Perhaps surprisingly, hot tubs are also said to be more desirable for potential homebuyers than swimming pools due to the fact that they are easier to maintain and therefore not as daunting a prospect. Take your inside outside

And by this we mean building an extension out into the garden, such as a conservatory or summer house. This gives you an area to sit in to enjoy the garden, even if the weather isn’t looking fantastic (as is often the case in the UK!) It also makes the size of your house bigger, meaning you have more space and therefore makes your property more appealing to potential buyers.

  1. We all love a well maintained garden where we can spend our evening with our loved ones. Buyers also have something like that in there minds. When looking at it they imagine themselves spending time at that place and a well maintained home garden makes it easier for them to realize that this home is the one for them and they are okay with paying a little extra if the garden is in good condition.
