Ranty Friday – The Phone

I have had it up to here of the phone recently! *points over the top of my head*

There are several reasons for this…….

At the top of my list are:

  • Why don’t people call back when they say they are going to?
  • Why don’t people call back when you have left a message (or two) politely reminding them that you need a response

It is so frustrating – the whole house is in limbo until we get this call and it is really stressful.  Just a polite return call to say they still haven’t made a decision, sorry to keep you waiting and I will get back to you on x,y,z day would help!

Then there are the cold callers.  We have registered with the Telephone Preference Service but still get them EVERY. SINGLE. DAY!

“Hello, am I speaking to Mrs Goopy?”  (they can never pronounce my surname).

EVERYTIME I ask to be removed from their list and it never happens.  I swear Lifestyle Services called me THREE times yesterday!  I have tried being polite, being rude and it has got to the stage now I just put the phone down.  I hate being rude myself but sometimes you just have to.

They have even started calling mine and hubby’s mobile phones.

Apparently records show that we have had an accident in the last three years……….. we haven’t.

Apparently we have unclaimed PPI………. we are in the process of claiming it ourselves.

Apparently we are entitled to free Solar Panels……. when you look into it they’re not free, there’s just no initial outlay just a monthly payment…… i.e. It’s a Loan!

Hubby even received a call last night from a payday loans company as apparently we took out a loan we cannot afford to pay back last month????? WTF

And then there is the window company who replaced ALL our windows last year.  You can guarantee that every three months, without fail, they phone up asking if we would like our windows and doors replaced.  I am hoping that their work is not so shoddy that they need doing again so soon.

Don’t even get me started on the call waiting systems that take you 20 minutes to speak to someone and then either cut you off, or the call takes just a minute to sort – that’s a whole new post!

So, on one hand we are desperate for the phone to ring and on the other we are dreading picking it up……. we cannot win! “Grrrrrrrrr”

  1. Lol I think this is a common gripe in most households! Thankfully we don’t have many cold callers. You need to have a whistle by the phone and blow it down to any cold callers, that should stop them! 😉

  2. Oh I feel you lady!! I hate waiting for a call and it does not come, then you jump up to answer the constant calls as it may be your awaited one and you get somebody mispronouncing your name and telling you your internet provider have asked them to call as your computer is not working. Grrrrr!

  3. I understand your frustration! We’ve registered with the preference service and don’t get many calls for ourselves, but we get soooo many for the people who used to have this phone number it’s unreal. As for ppi, accidents and loans on my mobile,I could weep 🙁

  4. We are quite lucky, the house phone rarely rings, so we must be on the right list somewhere (or not on the right list somewhere). Hubby gets loads on his mobile though from sales.

  5. I totally share your frustration. My worst at the moment is Abel and Cole…we had their veggie box YEARS ago and they KEEP calling to ask if we want another one….last night it was at 8.30….who calls at that time about a veggie box??! So annoying. Go Away!!!

  6. I detest phones. I think it’s the ASD streak in me, but I find talking with no visual queues extremely challenging, I always prefer text/email or face to face. Hope you feel better after offloading!

  7. That’s funny on the windows replacing front! I had similar with a computer company who called round but couldn’t fix our problem then wanted us to recommend to others and sign up to a monthly scheme with them. Er, hello?! Am with you on the phone thing, that’s why I prefer email. At least that way it feels like you are doing something/getting part way there!

  9. I really sympathise with you on the first bit. have been waiting for someone to get back to us with info for over a week now despite reminders.

My solution for cold callers etc is to say politely, “I hope you don’t mind but we’ve had some nuisance calls so our conversation will be linked to the local police station”. Mostly works and they disappear in a puff of smoke unless they are a) very persistent and b) don’t understand the language/law or c) cognitively underdeveloped

  10. Oh don’t get me started on cold callers about accident claims or ppi!
What is driving me loopy at the moment are the umpteen texts a week from payday loan companies telling me I’m eligible for a loan! If I wanted a loan I would look myself and not wait for a text, the fact that I’m not looking should tell them that I don’t want one!
Hope you get the call you are waiting for x

  14. We’re registered with the TPS too and it’s been great for us. THere’s just one company that call us not matter what I say to them but even that’s only once a month or so! It is so annoying though isn’t it? x x

  15. The cold calls are so annoying! I don’t bother answering my home phone as it’s normally promotional stuff, so we don’t get too many now.
Hope you soon get the call you are waiting for!
