Isaac has discovered the world of Club Penguin thanks to his big brother Kian and a months free trial.
Kian adored Club Penguin when he was younger and used to demand membership and collect the toys, compete with different outfits. These have now been handed down to Isaac, who is learning from his Penguin Master big brother.
If you have not heard of Club Penguin before, it is an interactive website which gives users the opportunities to create their own penguin, socialize with other users and play games. The game is also available as an app too.
If you are worried about your child playing online, be assured that the makers, Disney, have created a safe and fun environment where you child can have fun and learn without even realising it.
They’ve created games that expose your child to concepts in problem solving, teamwork, critical thinking, and even maths. The games give children the chance to practice their hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and typing.
Kids can get creative in many different ways – from designing outfits to decorating their own igloos – without getting glue on your sofa and because they can talk to other children online, the kids work together to navigate tricky mazes, hide dinosaur eggs, and solve mysteries and problems together.
The games also teach them that money doesn’t grow on trees. By playing games to earn coins, kids can learn to save up for what they want the most.
To ensure that children are kept safe Club Penguin has live moderators and filtered chat, an ad-free play environment and special parent tools. They are constantly striving to be the safest place on the internet, plus they have some fun games to play with your children that teach all about Internet safety.
Isaac loves the game and it is lovely to watch Kian teaching him how to play. Isaac has only been playing a month and has already made 14 friends that he chats to which has really helped his typing, reading and spelling skills.
As with any computer game I do restrict the length of time he plays on it as I find his mood will dip if he has anymore than an hour, but I am happy that he is safe playing online and learning without realising it!
I have never heard of this before, sounds fun x
I’m all for kids computer games that actually encourage learning! x
I am so glad that this is one fad that has passed the boys buy (thankfully)!
Never seen this before, looks interesting .x
My children are too young for this, my 4 year old is just getting interested in computer games. This look great fun though!
This sounds like a really measured way to introduce kids to learning apps
We love Club Penguin in our house – good clean fun 🙂
This sounds good but I’m wondering about the online friends? What measures does Club Penguin have in place to ensure that users are genuine? My kids haven’t used Club Penguin so I don’t know about it.
We’re keen to encourage people of all ages to play the game (grandparents often enjoy playing with their grandchildren online), and similarly we want kids to make friends whilst waddling around, which is why we ensure players don’t reveal personal info when choosing a penguin name, and therefore remain anonymous. We have industry leading word filters and a global team of moderators to ensure that all chat is positive and appropriate for everyone, so that penguins can have fun in a safe environment. The safety of our players is our number one priority 🙂
This sounds awesome. I clicked on a Thomas and Friends competition on Facebook and Aaron ended up playing the 2 games on there. Then I got him on lego.com and he ended up playing the games on there. It’s taught him mouse control (he’s used mouse for years but can now drag and drop) – so proud of him, but I won’t be letting him on a games console just yet but Club Penguin sounds cute.
Liska xx
What a great sounding app! Haven’t heard of this before but will definitely look at getting it for mine – thank you!
Learning via play time is the best thing out there… some of our kids don’t want to learn but they are happy to spend hours “playing” and they are actually learning a lot during this time.
Sounds good if you want a safe playing environment for the children.
