Publisher Luma Works will be launching Storytime magazine on 10th September 2014, a major new national magazine launch for parents packed with tales to read and share with their children.
With rising concern about the level of child literacy in the UK, research has shown that one in five (19%)*
of parents with children under eight read with them just once a week or less. From September 2014, to help tackle this, reading for pleasure will be given greater emphasis on the National Curriculum.
Storytime magazine makes reading fun with a captivating mixture of fairy tales, folk tales, fables, myths, legends, poetry, plus extracts from well-loved children’s books, all beautifully illustrated to engage parents and children in the magical world of stories.
In a children’s magazine market dominated by throwaway toys, Storytime will have a no plastic toy policy, and indeed will carry no adverts. The first issue will include classic stories Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Hare and the Tortoise, Aladdin, and The Fairy Bride, plus puzzles, colouring and games. In addition each issue will come with expert storytelling tips to help parents bring the stories to life. Storytime is a magazine for parents and children to share and treasure.
Storytime will be stocked in all major retailers including WH Smiths, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, and Waitrose, plus local newsagents. In support of the reading for pleasure initiative, a free copy of Storytime issue 1 will be distributed to all libraries nationwide.
Maxine Stinton, Editor of Storytime says:
“We’re immensely excited to launch Storytime and firmly believe that a children’s story magazine for both boys and girls is very much needed, particularly now that reading for pleasure is such a key part of the National Curriculum. We hope that parents will thoroughly enjoy revisiting and sharing tales from their own childhoods and that, in turn, we help make some happy Storytime memories for their own children.”
Storytime is priced at £3.99. Pre-orders can be taken at www.storytimemagazine.com but the fab team behind this exciting new magazine have offered me an annual subscription to giveaway to one of my readers!
