The Perfect Family Holiday

We have been lucky enough to enjoy a couple of family holiday’s in the UK this year and it has made us question what is our perfect family holiday as it has become very clear that what is good for the little ones is not necessarily good for the teen and vice versa.  It is a real challenge finding somewhere that offers the adventurous activities the teen craves and more gentle ones for the smallest members of the family.  I can still muster that “build up to Christmas” type excitement in the teen, I just have to compromise on activities we arrange and make sure that there is an equal split between them all.

My eldest two have now moved on to arranging their own holidays with friends, with Abbey just having got back from Gambia where she helped work on restoring a school – she had such an amazing time she is planning a return visit,(can you tell I am proud?) whilst Callan is busy planning his first lads holiday (Eek!).

With this in mind our perfect family holiday will offer activities that will suit all the family.  Kian is at the age where he craves his own independence and doesn’t want to be tied to the hip of his uncool parents and annoying little brothers and sister, although I have to admit that he is brilliant with them and is always helping out.  He wants to be with his peers having fun, experiencing new things but still needs that supervision to ensure he doesn’t do anything too reckless, oh, and he wants to travel by plane……he is 14 and has never flown!

Isaac is growing into a little dare-devil just like his big brother and at almost 7 years old is keen to try new things – apart from rollercoasters, he has made it VERY clear that he won’t go near one as they make his tummy funny!  He will however hurl himself off a platform and hurtle down a zip line at great speed, or go kayaking with his Dad or big brother.

Eliza is almost 4 and is our resident mermaid.  Her dream holiday would have a pool or beach or both where she could splash around all day.

Sebastian (1) has just started walking and is happy exploring his environment, but he does love the park and swimming so the resort must have facilities for him to enjoy too.

It is all to easy to focus on planning the perfect holiday for the children, but what about us parents?  We adore spending time with the children however we both work, sometimes long hours, and I can count on one finger the times we have been out together – just the two of us, this year.  Our perfect family holiday would include some time for us where we can relax knowing the kids are having a ball and take part in activities that we can enjoy –  after all, parents need some downtime too.

This is my application to become a Mark Warner Ambassador.

  1. We have the same issues with finding things for various age ranges. You can guarantee my 16 year old doesn’t want to do the same as my 3 year old and the Tweens don’t want to be in the same county as each other!! Good luck with your application x

  2. It is hard to plan holidays with a family with different age children. I find it hard just with my son. HE’s a tween and it seems like it’s their obligation to make their parents lives tougher 😉

  3. We spent 10 days this year on holiday in Majorca, part of which was with my dad and family, which comprises of my 4 younger sisters and it was nice, but 5 days was enough!

  4. I think it’s a challenge for holiday companies to provide something that suits wide age ranges like we have, would love to see you as a mark Warner ambassador so you can put it to the test!
