Dreaming of Florida

2013 was the year we were supposed to go to Florida and have a holiday of a lifetime with the kids.  It was postponed until 2014 with the arrival of Sebby but fate was against us and sadly Hubby was made redundant and all our hard saved money went on keeping a roof over our heads and keeping our heads above water.

Hubby found work again after a couple of months and has now been with his new company for a year and it is only now, a year on, that we are starting to get back on our feet.  Now that hubby has been with his new company a year, he is now able to join their “Save as you earn” scheme and start saving again for our holiday of a lifetime.

It is never too early to start researching Florida holidays and the kids have been avidly watching YouTube videos of the rides at Disney World since we got back from Disneyland Paris a couple of years ago.  My Dad has spent a lot of time in Florida and even toyed with emigrating there at one point and I know the state has a lot more to offer than just theme parks, although a visit to Universal and Harry Potter is top of my list.

Searching for activities to do with the kids I have found some pretty epic rollercoasters at Busch Gardens which would be high up on the teens list of things to do, and I know we would all love to visit The Everglades as we love outdoor adventure.  They offer hiking, kayaking, hot-air ballooning and airboat rides to name but a few of the ways you can explore.

My other must visit would be Kennedy Space Centre which I remember visiting as a child.  I would love to time it with a rocket launch if at all possible as this is something we would all love to see happening live, although the centre has plenty to see and do if the timings didn’t fit.

Have you been to Florida – is there any must visit places you would recommend for visiting with children?

  1. We got married in Florida and wanted to go back for our ten year anniversary in 2018 but have somehow started talking about going in 2017. Fingers crossed we will be able to save up. We have never done Universal together and I so want to see the Harry Potter stuff. I have also started looking into Legoland and found out there is a bus that runs to it daily. But we can only go if we stick to a budget, I’m working out how to go for as small amount as possible.
