My Top 5 TV Dads

To celebrate Fathers Day, Currys are giving the chance to win a 48” TV from Samsung’s curved SUHD range . The TV’s worth around £1,800 and would make the perfect gift for any dad. All you have to do is blog about your Top 5 TV Dads, but the only trouble I had was whittling it down to just 5!

1.  Phil Dunphy from Modern Family is just brilliant and has me in fits of laughter in pretty much every scene.  He tries so hard to be the “cool” dad and often fails but his love and pride for his children shines through.  My favourite episodes are his over-competitive Halloween party and his manic efforts to go after a drone that had been spying on the family pool and you just know your life would be packed full of laughter if he was your dad.

2.  Special Agent Seeley Booth is a Special Agent with the FBI and the current FBI liaison to the Jeffersonian in the TV series Bones. Not only did the actor David Boreanaz once play the gorgeous brooding Angel in Buffy (and the spin off show Angel), but he is super-dad extraordinaire in Bones and an incredibly honourable, loyal and patriotic man.  He is dad to two children, Parker, from a previous relationship and Christine with the other lead character Temperance Brennan.  He is the sort of Dad that you know you could run do if you were every in trouble and he would sort it all out for you, even being prepared to break the rules (a little).

3.  If there were ever any form of apocalypse on earth then Rick Grimes would be the perfect Dad to have.  He would go to the ends of the earth to protect his family whilst emphasising moral codes and values.  How he can go from killing zombies one minute to gently cradling his baby daughter the next astounds me and he has successfully raised his teenage son Carl despite countless run-ins with people wanting to kill them.

4.  South London dad Pete Brockman struggles to get through the day raising three rambunctious children.  He tries his hardest to organise his family but often finds himself over-run by his children. He is slightly hopeless, a bit confused and life seems to have taken him, rather than it being him who dictates the direction in which it goes, but it is the way he deals with his daughter Karen that amuses me the most.  I can see my hubby being in this situation in a few years as Eliza is very much like Karen in that she has an opinion on everything and rarely pauses for breath!

5.  Ragnar Lothbrok. Ok, so he has a dodgy haircut but Ragnar was a legendary Norse ruler, king, and hero from the Viking Age. In the TV series Vikings he is a fierce warrior, driven not only by his thirst for battle and glory, but also by his thirst for knowledge and inquisitive nature. Unlike some of his bloodthirsty comrades he isn’t doing it for fun or greed but to find a settlement and fertile farmland for his subjects and family.  Having Ragnar as your dad would certainly be good for learning those battle skills and just imagine the life of adventure you would have.
