A Family Meal at Toby Carvery

At Toby Carvery, they believe there’s only one way to do the beloved Great British roast – and that’s properly. Last week we were invited in to our local Toby in Northbourne to test them out.

We arrived just after 6pm after battling through the Christmas traffic after the kids swimming lessons, all starving hungry apart from Sebby who was a little grumpy after being woken up. If I am honest we were slightly concerned it was going to be a disastrous evening as Eliza tripped up the step and cut her leg as soon as arrived.

Thankfully the staff were fabulous and got us seated at our table straight away and headed off to find Eliza a plaster. Disaster averted we ordered our drinks and were invited to go up straight away to get our carvery. Isaac isn’t a fan of roast dinners so I had been prepared to order him a kid’s meal, but he was so hungry he wanted to try the roast.

Every day, local your Toby Carvery lays on a family-sized feast of tender, slow-cooked meats, eight lots of veg including crispy, ruffled roasties and all the trimmings, so you can enjoy your favourite roast meal just the way you like it. We had the choice of Ham, Turkey or Pork with huge Yorkshire Puddings and a good selection of vegetables.

Isaac chose Ham, roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, carrots and cauliflower cheese whilst the rest of us had the works – he ate the lot!! This is a boy who normally gags on a vegetable and refuses a roast dinner normally so I think he has turned a corner. I have to say that it was all delicious!

Dinner consumed and we were all fit to burst but the dessert menu looked amazing so we decided we had enough room to squeeze in a sweet treat. The kids all went for ice cream, whilst Kian and Hubby had Sundae and I had blackcurrant Eton Mess.

All in all we were really impressed with Toby Carvery. Our main meals were instant and our desserts arrived within 5 minutes of ordering them. My only feedback was that the service was not very personable and it did feel a bit like a cattle market…….get them in and get them back out again, but then the room was filled with Christmas parties.

Our meals, including refillable drinks, came to £55 but we also downloaded a free sundae voucher for every main meal purchased which took it down to £47 for six of us which is really good value. We will certainly be going back again soon.

  1. That’s a really fair review Kara — I LOVE a carvery too but also agree that good service is so important when you’re eating out — it makes the world of difference doesn’t it? All this talk of food is making me hungry — off to eat some cake! 🙂

  2. This sounds like a great value meal, I can’t imagine feeding us all for that price! And I’m so glad to see that the staff were kind to you when your daughter hurt herself too. Something similar happened to us recently and little acts of kindness like that really make your day don’t they?x
