A Bedroom Fit for a Prince and Princess!

Eliza had been set on what she wanted for Christmas since September and on her first visit to see Father Christmas she asked for the Cinderella with the spinning skirt much to my relief.

A chance meeting with Father Christmas aboard a Santa Cruise did throw up a curved ball which I was not expecting. Instead of asking for the doll she wanted she decided to ask for a new bedroom, complete with bunk beds, princess bedding and new curtains…….I have no idea where that came from.

Thankfully Father Christmas saw the horror in my eyes and as it was just a couple of days until Christmas kindly said that it was a little late notice to rally the Elves to make that wish come true, so she reverted back to her original choice…….phew!

Thankfully she got her Cinderella doll, however it is her birthday in January and she has not stopped talking about having a “new Princess bedroom” and is very adamant about what she does, and doesn’t, want.

I do have the issue that she shares her bedroom with Sebastian which makes an entirely girly bedroom impossible, however he is currently still in his cot bed which he is outgrowing fast so bunk beds do make total sense, plus it will give them more space to play in the room, which I hope will keep them in their room longer so I can get a lie in (that is wishful thinking, isn’t it?).

The room isn’t huge but I like the idea of a “L” shaped bunk which means Sebby won’t be closed in below, plus many of them have built-in wardrobes too which is a real space saver. At the moment I have squeezed in a chest of drawers and Eliza is sharing my wardrobe and Sebby is sharing the boys which isn’t ideal. Having bunk beds will mean that I can add more cupboards to their room.

My only concern with bunk beds is that Sebastian likes to climb and I have found him on top of Isaac’s bunk a couple of times before, so my other consideration is for a storage or divan bed each. If I went for this option however, I would not be able to squeeze in a wardrobe so we would be in the same situation again.

Once I have found the perfect bed arrangement for us my next problem is how to create the perfect bedroom for them. Pink and girly would be top of Eliza’s wishlist, however Sebastian is very much into his trains, planes and tractors although I have thought of a compromise.

One thing they both love is Daddy’s bedtime stories that he makes up. Princess Eliza lives in a Castle which has a magical purple dragon living underneath it called Twinkle. Instead of breathing fire, she blows bubbles and brave Knight Sebastian has his own blue dragon called Sparkle who breathes Rainbows. They currently have woodland wall stickers from Enchanted Interiors which can stay but I can add some Knight and Princess ones to bring their story to life.

Enchanted Interiors

The bedroom was only decorated last summer is currently a pale cucumber green which keeps it light and the benefit of wall stickers is that they don’t damage the paintwork when they get peeled off so hopefully Eliza won’t mind it we keep it that colour. I think that the green will work with both sets of stickers above.

Making the room suit both of them is going to be tricky, but hopefully I have found the right compromise which will last until they finally get a room of their own and at least they can have duvet covers of their favourite characters on their separate beds.

  1. It is tricky when they share isnt it. Syd is still in with us as the age gap is just too big for him to share with one of the older ones – but when Betsy headed off to Uni in September I did attempt to entice him into moving into her room (albeit only during term time) – wall stickers were perfect for that as she can take them down when she is back for 4 months in the summer – that and a new duvet cover (which is easy to switch back) turned a girly room into a space room. (luckily the walls are white so it is all down to the accessories!) Sadly much as he loved it, he has declined to try sleeping there, currently claiming he is staying in our room until he is 12. Ouch!

  2. We LOVE wall stickers. We are currently building new furniture for MIni’s room and I have just peeled his off the wall, ready to reapply once we have finished
