Peugeot 5008 Allure Review

Over the half term holidays we were lucky enough to have a Peugeot 5008 Allure to put to the test and we really put it through its paces with days out far and wide.

Being a family of 6 we need a 7 seater vehicle to transport us all where we need to go which I find really limit our car options. The Peugeot 5008 is perfect for us as is a versatile family car with three full size seats in row two of the car, capable of fitting our three isofix car seats across, plus it has two further rear seats concealed in the boot floor.

As with most 7 seater MPV’s once the rear seats are up in the boot there is very little boot space, but as there are six of us we left one down so were able to transport Sebby’s buggy or shopping with ease. There is not a great deal of leg room with the seats in the boot either so these are best suited to younger children however the car seats fit them well.

The Peugeot 5008 has been recently restyled both inside and out and I have to say it was all the gadgets which really sold the car to us. The Head Up display – a clear polycarbonate strip which comes up when driving, projects your speed and directions (if you have programmed the satnav) directly in front of you, so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road.

Close-by, in the centre of the dashboard is the screen for audio-navigation which also doubles up as a reversing camera which alerts you to anything that may be behind you. You can set this up to show your radio station, a map of wear you are or sat nav or a split screen of radio and directions. You can even link your phone to it through bluetooth to make and receive calls or listen to music.

Peugeot have really thought about driver and passenger comfort too. The driver’s seat is adjusted electronically at the side and I loved the high driving position. The air conditioning can be set at different levels for the driver and passenger which is great as I like to be cool when driving but hubby prefers it to be warmer and above the rear view mirror is a built-in smaller mirror that allows you to safely see the passengers in the back.

The kids loved the panoramic roof, especially when it was raining as they were playing racing raindrops and the built-in sun shades are a genius idea – they even have them in the very rear windows in the boot too for passengers travelling there or if you have a baby in a rear-facing car seat. There is a rollerblind to hide the panoramic roof which we needed to close on a particularly hot and sunny day.

There is plenty of storage with compartments in the footwells, between the driver and passenger seat (with a USB to allow MP3 connection, cup holders and even a sunglasses holder above the drivers window. With the seats down the boot is huge too.

The 1.6l BlueHDI engine was quiet and efficient. We did almost 600 miles on one tank of fuel which I thought was very impressive and it performed well on the motorway, on country roads and around town.

I have to admit that we fell in love with the Peugeot 5008, it is the perfect family car for us. Driving an automatic took some getting used too as I had never driven one before, but I can now see its appeal and my driving hating Hubby (I do all the driving normally) actually enjoyed it too and took to the wheel for all our journey’s last week.
