Over the last few years Mother’s Day have been a bit hit and miss.
Parents of teens will know that they have a habit of sleeping in late and forgetting what day of the week it is, never mind if it is a special occasion.
This year I wrote Mother’s Day off before it even started as my husband and eldest son both work in retail and have to work weekends and I managed to book myself in two places at once before I even realised what date it was.
I saw my mum on Saturday, taking her to Weymouth to visit the Sea Life Centre as she had not been for donkey’s years (I am not allowed to reveal the actual figure).
On Sunday, Hubby was up and out the door by 7.30am to go to work but he left me and the kids sleeping and I actually got a lie in until 9am – let’s ignore the fact that the clocks went forward by an hour, it was still a win for me.
I woke to find the table decked with cards, candles and some flowers although it did take the kids a while to twig it was Mother’s Day and give them to me. Kian presented me with some Lush goodies so I took that as a hint and disappeared upstairs for a relaxing bath.
Once I was out and dressed it was all systems go. I had to pick Abbey up as her car had broken down and take her into Bournemouth as she was taking Isaac, Eliza and Sebby to Big Fish Little Fish at the Old Fire Station. They got treated to an ice cream treat at Sprinkles……….erm, where was mine?
As for me, well I went on a road trip to Yeovil with Kian to take part in a Young Driver Experience.
I have to admit it was lovely spending time with Kian watching his first driving lesson and it was a beautiful day to drive around Dorset and Somerset.
Back at home, Abbey presented me a couple of Pandora charms from her and Callan and then it was time to give her a lift back home.
Hubby arrived home just before 7pm and despite spending a full day at work, cooked us a lovely steak meal – it always tastes better when someone else cooks doesn’t it?
It may not have been a conventional Mothers Day but it was mine and I loved it!!
Sounds like a really nice Mother’s Day to me, mine was a mixed bag. Lovely presents, treats and a day out with Mum but horrid arguments with my daughter and my Mum kind of spoilt it. Such is family life eh?!
I love the idea of these young driver days, we shall look into the for Curly in the next year or so, he is 15 now.
Sorry to hear it was a mixed bag for you. Highly recommend the young driver course, they can do it from age 10 🙂
It sound like a lovely Mother’s Day! I love LUSH bath products! We all went for a walk on the beach and fish & chips on Mother’s Day – perfect!
wow sounds like you had a lovely day. Mother’s day is always a mixed bag isn’t it between what you have to do and what you would love to do. well it is for me lol x
It sounds like it was a great day, a little bit of everything and lots of time with your kids. Mich x
Sounds like a lovely day still! Loving the bracelet!
We have a young drivers experience coming up in May! Looking forward to it
It sounds like a lovely Mother’s Day. I bet that was fab watching the driving experience x
That sounds like a lovely Mothers Day if you ask me – sums up being a mum perfectly x x
I love the unconventional because usually days like that are the most fun and it sounds like you all had fantastic day besides the broken down car. Lush goodies sounds nice – we were away and I didn’t even get a card but we had a great day in the end

It sounds like a fabulous day! I think unconventional normally means that it suits you rather than other people.
