My Top Travel and Days Out Posts of 2018

Yesterday I wrote about my top read posts of 2018, many of which were reviews of toys and appliances, as people now do a lot of research online before they decide to buy these days.

My blog’s speciality has always been days out and travel with the family, so I thought it would be a good idea to share my top read travel and days out posts of the year too.

Is LaplandUK as magical the second time around?

The answer was a resounding “YES!” from my three.

LaplandUK

LaplandUK is not a cheap and cheerful visit to the local toyshop Santa. It is a magical immersive experience that starts a home with an invitation to join the big man himself and help at Father Christmas’ secret Elf Toy Factory at his Arctic wonderland.

LaplandUK

You can expect around 4 hours of fun, learning how Mother Christmas makes the elves, decorating biscuits, reading stories, making toys and meeting the residents of Lapland – it is an experience that the kids still talk about now!

Bluebells at Pamphill, Dorset

Seeing the bluebells is a real treat in the spring and our local bluebell wood is in Pamphill, just outside Wimborne and it is a bit tricky to find if you don’t know where to go.

New LEGO® NINJAGO World at LEGOLAND® Windsor

Back in 2017 we were invited to the launch of the new Ninjago Ride at Legoland Windsor and it instantly became our favourite ride at the theme park.

Ninjago World

NINJAGO™ The Ride is the first attraction in the UK to use thrilling 4D effects of heat, smoke and wind, alongside state of the art Maestro hand gesture technology, enabling riders to virtually throw fire balls, shock waves, ice and lightning using nothing but their hands, as well as intuitively adapting to each individual’s playing style. This, along with 3D image projection throughout the ride, makes the LEGO® NINJAGO™ World experience feel as real as possible for aspiring young ninjas – in other words, it is VERY COOL!!

10 reasons Dorset should be on your travel list for 2018

I love our home county and am always blogging about all the wonderful things there are to do here.

Corfe Castle

With a good mixture of nature, history and action packed days out, there is plenty to entertain the whole family.

A Thorpe Park VIP Experience

Back in 2014, Abbey celebrated her 21st birthday and her treat was a VIP day at Thorpe Park.

Thorpe Park

This is the perfect day out for theme park enthusiasts, as not only do you get some behind the scenes access, you also get to queue jump and the finale was the opportunity to climb one of three rollercoasters – we chose Swarm.

Christmas at Beaulieu

This year Beaulieu held their first ever Christmas event, with a stunning new illuminated Christmas trail which features over one million lights in a mile long shimmering trail of 11 individual installations.

Hugs

The lights were spectacular and the kids loved exploring what was around every corner. I hope they do it again next year.

Our Mermaid Experience with Mayim Mermaid Academy

Eliza loves mermaids and for Christmas last year she got her very own mermaid tail. I was keen for her to have lessons so she was able to stay safe in the pool, so for her birthday she had her very own lesson.

Mayim Mermaid Academy

The lesson was brilliant and she is now quite accomplished at swimming with a mermaid tail. She is even having a mermaid party this year, so her friends can join in the fun!!

Highlights of Camp Bestival 2018

Attending Camp Bestival is always one of the highlights of our year and after a bit of a damp one in 2017, we had high hopes for this year as it fell slap bang in the middle of a heatwave.

HMS Camp Bestival

We had an amazing time, with the kids getting to take part in a world record attempt, tree climbing, meeting some of their favourite stars of kids TV and rocking out to some cool bands, before the weather suddenly changed on Saturday which saw our tent get blown down and the event cancelled on the Sunday. Luckily, we only live up the road, so managed to get home safely, with some extra guests.

Eliza’s Climbing Party at Rockreef

Having a January birthday can mean it is a challenge to find fun things to do for a party, as many attractions are outdoors or closed and the weather can be a bit hit and miss.

Rockreef

One of our favourite all weather attractions is Rockreef Climbing Centre on Bournemouth Pier and despite being a wild and windy day, which saw us literally being blown along the pier, the kids had a whale of a time challenging themselves with the climbing walls, caves and high ropes for Eliza’s 7th birthday.

A Day Out with Thomas on the Mid-Hants Railway, Watercress Line.

The Watercress Line is a great day out for all the family, but twice a year it gets taken over by Thomas and Friends for a themed day out.

Thomas the Tank Engine

Although it is Sebby that is my main train fan, the kids all adored this day out as there was plenty for them all to enjoy, including rides in a diesel shunter, Harry, rides in Thomas, traditional fairground rides, delicious food as well as lots of activities to do, on and off the trains.

Just missing out on my top 10, by two page views each is Christmas at Marwell and meeting the new Fairy Penguins at Weymouth Sealife Centre.

Have you visited any of these attractions?

  1. I love the sound of the mermaid swim experience. You daughter looks so full of joy and mastered the tail very well! I would want to take my daughter to Lego land this year as she’s getting to the age of being able to go on rides and explore the space around her more
