Since visiting Parc Asterix last October, the kids have been busy devouring Asterix books borrowed from the library and have fallen in love with the quirky characters.
If you have not heard of Asterix, he is one of the most beloved characters in French popular culture. He resides in a remote Gaulish village in the middle of the Roman Empire, with his best friend, Obelix and a series of humorous comics portray him as a diminutive but fearless Gaulish warrior living in the time of Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars.
Last weekend we were invited to see the new film Asterix – The Secret of the Magic Potion.
Before the film started we got to take part in some fun activities, including balloon modelling, face painting and being transformed into caricature versions of some of the movie characters.
In the film Asterix and Obelix embark on a quest across Gaul looking for a young druid worthy of learning the secret of the magic potion – a formula which has long helped to keep the Gaulish village safe against Julius Cesar and his invading army.
However, once Asterix and Obelix begin their quest, all hell breaks loose at home as the Romans start attacking the village and an evil wizard named Demonix does everything he can to steal the potion’s secret recipe.
We thoroughly enjoyed the film as there is plenty of action and several laugh-out-loud moments throughout it to keep the family interested from beginning to end.
What the kids say:
Sebastian (6): My favourite part was the Roman giant fighting the Lava guy at the end.
Eliza (8): I liked that it was the girl that saved the day
Isaac (11): I liked the magic spells and the action
Asterix and the Secret of the Magic Potion is in cinemas from 30th August.

This sounds like a great film and it sounds like they had a great time before the movie too! I will keep an eye out for this as it sounds like a film my kids would love too!
Sounds like a fun film, I had no idea Asterix was French! I haven’t heard of this character before but the kids seem to be very into it x
I didn’t realise there was a new film! I am sure it is something Jack would enjoy.
What a fun event to attend, we have not watched Asterix and the Secret of the Magic Potion yet but would love to soon as it is released here.
This film sounds wonderful and something my son would enjoy. It’s great you all had a great time and it’s nice to see what the kids thought of the movie. I vaguely remember Asterix from my childhood.
