To celebrate the spooky season we were invited to review the new bigger and better version of retro classic, Ghost Castle.
It is the perfect board game choice for those darker evenings, and is lots of fun as you try and avoid the traps to win the game.
The premise of the game is that you are paranormal investigators, hired to find out if the legend of “Ghost Castle” is true, and to record anything “strange” going on inside. Trouble is… it’s all true. Having made your way upstairs, you’ve accidentally woken the mean-spirited ghost of Count Spooksalot, and he is determined to get revenge by trapping you in his castle FOREVER!
In the box:
- Glow-in-the dark ghost
- metal ball
- room traps: staircase, portrait, bookcase, axe and shakey floor
- castle walls and roof
- 8 pawns
- dice
Setting Up
Don’t expect to open the game and play straight away, first you need to build the castle.
This takes a fair bit of time (about half an hour) and my best tip is to make sure you line up the three coloured dots of the same colour, to make sure the walls are installed correctly.
I would also recommend watching the YouTube video, rather than the manual as the instructions are clearer and easier to follow.
Once the castle is set up, the game is easy to play as you race down the stairs and through the trap-filled rooms, where danger lurks at every turn.
How to play
The idea of the game is to get out of the castle as quickly as possible and don’t get left behind.
The trouble is, if you roll a ghost, you sets off a trap and if you, or your opponents get knocked over by the metal ball you have to go back.
I would recommend playing on a table, as you need to move around the board to get to each room, or you can turn the castle as your characters move.
Will you go the long, safer way, or risk taking a short cut……..the choice is yours.
The game is suitable for children aged 6 years and upwards and is available at all good toy shops with an RRP of £21.
Thanks to the team at Norton PR, I have a copy of the Ghost Castle game to giveaway to one lucky reader.
