Who knew that this week would turn out to be such a momentous week.
It feels like we have lived through more than our fair share of “once in a lifetime events” in recent years and this week has been the saddest by far.
Our beloved Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully on 8th September 2022, bringing in a new era of King Charles III.
Here is our week:
Monday 5th September
Finally back to school for all three kids!!

It is going to take some time to get used to the school run again, but thankfully the traffic was ok today.
Tuesday 6th September
We have a new Prime Minister – Liz Truss, who has taken over from Boris Johnson.

She met with the Queen in Balmoral and we all said how frail the Queen looked in the photo, little did we know what was to come.
Wednesday 7th September
Back to pre-school for me and it was lovely to meet our new students, meanwhile my husband got on with painting our fence before the predicted storms hit.

Thursday 8th September
After a very dry summer, the rain is back with a vengeance and we joked that we need a boat to get home from work, not a car!
At work, my phone kept pinging to say the Queen was ill, but it was only when we heard that her family were rushing to Balmoral to be by her side that we were worried.
At 18.30 it was confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II has sadly passed away this afternoon.

I am a huge fan of the Queen and the Royal family and was really quite upset by the news.
Friday 9th September
Life has to go on and it was back to work for me. I walked into Tesco in a sombre mood, which was only to be made worse by the music they were playing, which made it feel like we were at the funeral already. I completely forgot to take a photo!
Thankfully work went smoothly, apart from running out of newspapers by lunchtime, as many people wanted a souvenir of this historic occasion.
I enjoyed listening to all the ex-Prime Ministers describing their relationship with the Queen and despite Boris leaving just this week, his speeches far outshone everyone else by far.
Saturday 10th September
Isaac’s volunteer day on Brownsea Island and we enjoyed watching the fish swimming in the turquoise water whilst waiting for his boat.

Whilst picking him up, we got to watch a huge container ship exit Poole Harbour and sail past the Sandbanks Ferry, which the kids thought was cool!

I enjoyed watching the proclamation of King Charles III on the TV – the first time it has been televised. It brought back memories of visiting St James’ Palace for my daughter’s Gold DofE award.
Sunday 11th September
A catch up day of washing and homework, apart from a brief visit to Nobu, for a Butterbeer flavour bubble tea I promised Eliza, for having a good first week at school.

It really did taste like butterbeer and Eliza loved it!!

How was your week?
The kids look so smart in their uniforms. I hope they have settled in well back at school.
Considering the Queen met with Liz Truss on the Tuesday her being dead by Thursday evening was a bit shocking. It all happened so quickly. Boris’s speech really surprised me too. It’s the first time I’ve beleived anythign he’s said.
That butterbeer tea does look and sound so good. x
The kids look very smart in their school uniform, hope back to school went well. I’ve tracked many a container ship as it’s travelled with the contents of our home, I still watch them now, fascinated with how they load them
Hope everyone’s settled back into school. I found myself quite upset about the Queen too. Even today I was in the car listening to Jeremy Vine’s show and felt teary then too. Bit ridiculous given I don’t think I cried when my own nan or Grandma died.
It certainly was quite a week wasn’t it? Very sad news about the Queen and so strange to be referring to ‘the King’ now. It was a shock especially after seeing the photos of the Queen meeting Liz Truss although she did look frail. Glad Eliza had a good first week at school. Butterbeer bubble tea sounds like a nice treat. #project365
It was incredibly sad to hear about the Queen for me too. I realised she died when the family went to Balmoral, it was too unusual and then the news was released.
The bubble tea is unusual, I like it too, but I’m not sure about the butterbeer flavouring.
Love their smart unifrorms, hope the return to school went smoothly for all. It has been such an odd time with a new prime minister immediately followed by national grief. #project365
