For more than 30 years women have been singing about independence. Whether you consider it the work of Beyoncé or Destiny’s Child in general, talking about female independence has been a great way to empower women as time has gone on. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you feel independent all of the time.
As a woman, you have to do everything that you can to make sure that you hang onto your independence for dear life. It’s not just independence from men, but independence from anybody around you so that you are a self -sufficient, self-sustaining woman. It’s not impossible. It’s not something that’s unattainable. And it’s not something that can’t be done with some simple things such as driving lessons. If you want to become a more independent woman, take a look at our tips on how to do that below.
- Start listening to your intuition. Making decisions alone isn’t something that everybody is capable of doing. Some people need the interference of their parents or of their friends to be able to make decisions that should be easily done. If you start making all of your decisions on your own, it can feel very overwhelming. However it’s going to make you a much more independent individual as time goes on. Start choosing things for yourself for a change and watch how your life changes.
- Get to know who you are. If you’ve never considered yourself to be a strong and independent person, it’s time to change that and consider some self reflection. As a woman there is nobody out there who can tell you who to be; It’s all about who you want to be and who you make yourself into. The fun part is that you have full control of this, and you can be whoever you want to be because the person that you create is where you will end up.
- Learn what you admire about yourself. No matter what it is, there has to be something that you love about you. People in your life will be able to give you a laundry list of things that they love about you, but if you don’t love them there’s a difference. To be truly independent, you have to focus on the things about yourself that you admire and that you would lean into. That often means singing your own praises from time to time, and we definitely know that that’s not easy.
- Learn to support yourself emotionally as much as financially. Independent women know what they need for their emotional well being and they know how to support themselves if they have nobody else to lean on. Don’t be afraid to lean on yourself from time to time, and feel those emotions that you’ve been building up. There is nothing worse than not being able to lean on yourself.
