Project 365 2025 – Week 5

It has been a tricky week this week.

It started with the rumour mill in overdrive with job cuts at work. Although the cuts don’t affect me directly, it does affect a number of colleagues and we still think this is just the start of more.

Only time will tell!

Here is our week:

Sunday 26th January

The birthday weekend continues with Eliza choice of meal out. She loves roast dinners and everywhere was booked on Friday, so a proper Sunday roast it is!

The lucky girl even got another birthday cake as the one from her party was demolished immediately!

Monday 27th January

Monday is a work day and I start at 5am, which is always painful.

Luckily the day wasn’t too stressful. One of my colleagues’ had premature baby granddaughters at the end of last year, so we have been raising money for the neonatal unit. When we presented them with the money, they asked if we can help with making kangaroo’s for their kangaroo care week, so I have been making posters to display for customers to help.

Eliza also had a trial at the swimming school where Isaac works and I am pleased to say she got the job and will now work as a swim helper two days a week.

Tuesday 28th January

Work for me and the kids finished late at school as they are making their final preparations for Oliver, which is only two weeks away now.

The managers all had a meeting about job cuts and the rumour was that it was my role that was going, so I spent the day on tenterhooks. Luckily, my job is safe, for now, but things are changing so fast in retail that I have no idea how long for.

There are going to be a lot of changes again this year.

In other news – we have snowdrops in our garden.

Snowdrops

Wednesday 29th January

Our day off, so we dropped the kids to school and headed to Sussex to see Callan, Chelsea and Barney.

We last saw him at Christmas, where he was tentatively taking his first steps, but now he is off and toddling. They are also trying to introduce a fork and spoon for eating, so we thought we would try it out. He did really well, but much prefers using his fingers!

Thursday 30th January

We have put bird feeders up in our garden to try and encourage birds back to our bird boxes this year, but all they seem to have attracted is the local squirrel population. This one is really brave and comes right up to us and even runs along the window sills..

Friday 31st January

Finally the end of January, it definitely feels longer than its 31 days!!

Friday’s are a busy one for us as Isaac has work and Sebby and Eliza have youth club – all at different times of course!

My only photo is of the stream near where we live. We have had so much rain its more of a gush than its normal trickle, but you can’t really see it at night.

Saturday 1st February

I was expecting it to be a busy day at work as it was payday weekend, but it stayed fairly quiet for most of the day apart from the lunchtime rush.

I came home to some beautiful flowers too.

How was your week?

  1. Eliza looks beautiful and so grown up. Our babies are growing up too fast. And wow, Eliza’s getting a job. Full respect!

  2. Glad your job’s safe, fingers crossed it stays so. One of our work contacts at a different supermarket is evidently going through redundancy, which will make a big impact. I’m on tenterhooks waiting to see if there’s other implications for our work down the line. Glad Eliza had a good meal, and well done her on the job. I wish N’s tennis was still going as he’d have likely been able to continue helping out there with the little ones.

  3. Sorry to hear your job was at risk, that must have been very stressful for you. I have the same jumper with the rainbow stripes, I love wearing it, so comfy. The roast for Eliza’s birthday meal looks delicious.

  4. It must be a worrying time with talk of job cuts, I imagine it’s the same across the whole of retail this time of year. I hope they do keep your role it looks like you do a lot for the community and that’s really important.
Eliza looks very happy with her extra cake. That’s great news about the job for her, too!

  5. I am sorry to hear that you were concerned about your job. It must have been a very stressful few days.
Having bold squirrels is lovely, even though it would be better to have birds visiting your garden.
Congratulations to Eliza for her job. That’s fantastic.

  6. Oh my goodness, how grown up does Eliza look in your first photo?! Glad she enjoyed her birthday meal out and well done to her on getting the job as a swim helper. What a lovely idea to have people make kangaroos for the neonatal unit. Glad your job is safe. Lovely to have snowdrops appearing in the garden. We get a lot of squirrels in our garden but have squirrel-proof bird feeders. Barney looks like he is doing really well with using a fork. How lovely to come home to some beautiful flowers. #project365
