Project 365 2025 – Week 9

After a lovely half term break, it’s back to work and school.

March is going to be a busy one, Eliza has to choose her Options and both her and Isaac have a show at the Pavilion mid-month, so have lots of extra rehearsals to attend.

Here is our week:

Sunday 23rd February

Over half term we made some pine cone bird feeders on our visit to Brownsea Island.

We had high hopes of seeing the birds enjoying them, but sadly the squirrels ripped them down and stole them!!

Monday 24th February

The kids were back to school today, so made the most of a bit of sunshine and headed out for a very muddy walk along the Stour in the hope of spotting a kingfisher.

Frustratingly, my Merlin bird app picked up its call, but we didn’t spot one, but saw a whole host of other birds along the way.

Our walk was also thwarted by a very flooded rive – believe it or not, this next picture should be the path.

Tuesday 25th February

I seem to spend my days at home trying to shoo the squirrels away from our bird feeders. Sadly word seems to have got round that our garden has all the spoils and I had 5 of them squabbling over the bird feeders.

Does anyone have any tips for preventing them coming into the garden?

Wednesday 26th February

Enjoyed my second visit of the week to Brownsea Island and although it was a very blustery and bouncy boat trip over, the weather did eventually improve.

I have never docked at the castle before, so it was nice to see part of the island that the general public don’t see.

Isaac had parents evening and has started his A-Levels well and all his teachers are pleased with his progress so far.

Thursday 27th February

Another day of squirrel watching as I am now full of cold, and I honestly thought this one, now called Houdini, was going to be stuck fast!!

Thankfully it managed to get its head back out eventually.

Friday 28th February

Back to work for me and it was straight into sorting Easter donations as the requests have been piling in whilst I have been off.

I have been asked for 1,000 easter eggs so far, but have made the decision not to donate them in bulk this year, as even the smallest ones are £1.65 now so will blow my budget in no time.

Saturday 1st March

After if felt like there were eleventy billion days in January, February has flown by!

It was a work day for me, but as the weather was so nice, we headed to the beach after work as we promised the kids a visit to the arcades.

It was so warm we couldn’t resist an ice cream treat – the first whippy of 2025, but the temperature did plummet as the sun set and we were nicely chilled when we got back to the car.

  1. Ooh nice to have ice creams. Can’t believe that flooding, great picture of the swan swimming down. We need to put in requests at local shops for our school easter giveaway. I’m hoping the small local shops will be able to donate a few as they get fewer requests than the big town stores.

  2. Good luck to Eliza choosing her options and the kids in the show.
Eesh! The naughty squirrels, what spoilsports they are! Wow! That river that should be a path, the swan looks like they’re having a great time though.
Yay for the ice cream! It won’t be long until our ice cream van starts coming around.

  3. Those squirrels really are terrorising your garden, the birds don’t seem to be getting a look in. I don’t even know where you would begin to deter them, they are ruthless.
Good luck to Eliza with her options; we will be in the same place with Daisy this time next year.
You take such lovely photos, when I try and snap bird pics, they look like far away blobs. I must get my decent camera out soon.
    Have a lovely week ahead.

  4. Cheeky squirrels ripping down the pine cone feeders. The ones in our garden would have done the same! Love the photo of the robin. Glad that Isaac’s parents’ evening went well. How lovely to have a walk along the beach and enjoy some ice-cream. #project365

  5. February has indeed flown by after January being so long. The adventures with the squirrels sound very entertaining. I’d have enjoyed watching them too. I can’t see how there can be a path where the swan is swimming.
