Project 365 2025 – Week 13

With the show over, all our attention has now turned to the roof, with the scaffolding going up Monday and the work starting to replacing the batons and felt on Tuesday.

Thankfully the weather held and all the work was completed ahead of schedule on Friday.

Here is our week:

Sunday 22nd March

Abbey’s car has a warning light, so I took Lilah to her swimming lesson.

It has been a few years since I had to sit at the side of a pool watching kids swim and I forgot how warm it was.

Monday 23rd March

I was at work by 5am, but the scaffolders were here at 8am sharp and had fitted all the scaffolding needed around the house by lunchtime, ready for the roofers to start tomorrow.

Tuesday 24th March

Like the scaffolders yesterday, our roofers were bang on time at 8am and got to work straight away.

I don’t go in the loft very often, I tend to leave that to my husband, or the teens so it was an eye opener to see the stuff that they pulled out. We knew that the insulation was an issue, but the felt lining had completely deteriorated and was literally crumbling as it was handled. We also discovered that the boards behind the fascia’s were rotten, so sadly they needed to be replaced too.

Wednesday 25th March

It’s Mother’s Day this weekend but my Mum is busy with relatives who are stopping in the UK on a world cruise, so I headed over to see her with a little gift, stopping at my favourite post box to check out the latest topper.

The roof was coming on well, although we were roofless for a night, but thankfully watertight by the time they left, just in case we got any rain.

Thursday 26th March

The predicted rain never materialised so the roof work was ahead of schedule.

They are putting in a new crossing on a main road near us and the workmen managed to damage some cables, so although we didn’t get a power cut like some of our estate, it did knock the internet out which was very frustrating as we can’t get a TV signal with an aerial, so we held a games night, with Chess and draughts as the games of choice.

Friday 27th March

The roof is finished, a day ahead of schedule.

My only frustration with it is that we spent a lot of money to get it fixed and you really cannot appreciate it as it’s all covered up. Hopefully this sorts the mould issue for once and for all.

Can you tell which house has been done? LOL

Saturday 29th March

Abbey’s car is currently in a garage being fixed, so I have lent her mine for the weekend. Thankfully one of my colleagues lives up the road, so I caught a lift home with her. Her cats normally ignore me, but today Rudy jumped on my lap for a cuddle.

  1. Wow, the roof done ahead of schedule! That’s so impressive. With the new insulation, the energy bills might be lower next winter, besides the problems you’ve had and needed fixing.
    The cat is so cute.

  2. Sounds like a busy week! Glad the roof got fixed ahead of schedule. No internet means board game night – love it! Reminds me I need to get back to game nights and maybe try that new kiwi clicker game everyone’s talking about!

  4. That’s impressive with the roof getting fixed ahead of schedule, you were lucky with the weather also. Nice to have a family evening without the internet and TV although I bet the kids were glad when it all came back on.

  5. A week dominated by the roof! It is good they are ahead of schedule – that’s a rarity. Your mother really knows the best way to celebrate Mother’s Day – a cruise sounds fantastic.
