LEGO Extinction coming to Marwell Zoo this summer

You are invited to step back in time this summer at Marwell Zoo, with a world-exclusive showcase of more than 20 awe-inspiring creatures crafted from over 2 million toy bricks.

You will discover lost species, including a gigantic woolly mammoth, a hissing titanoboa and a giant ground sloth. Plus, help build a sabre-toothed tiger, pose with a dinosaur egg, and watch out for a few surprises along the way!

We were lucky enough to be invited along to Iconic Bricks to see some of the models being built.

We have really enjoyed the previous LEGO installations at Marwell, so it was really interesting to see how each of the models is built.

LEGO

These supersized LEGO creations are all built by hand, following an instruction manual on a laptop, rather than on paper, with each brick glued into place, so they don’t fall apart. The largest of the models are built around a frame for extra strength and durability.

The kids were full of questions, with all the model makers taking the time to answer them. The penguin pictured above – the base took two weeks at home and is now being finished in the workshop – I think Sebby might have found his dream job, especially after he was asked to build his very own Dodo.

Some of the models are ready to go, with others half way there, but they have saved the biggest to last – a giant woolly mammoth which they plan to start building next week!

Extinction will be running from Saturday 19 July – Sunday 7 September 2025 and they have a fabulous early bird offer! Book your tickets by 31 May to save 25% off the gate price.

Anyone booking the early bird offer before May 18 will be entered into a prize draw to win a VIP trip to Iconic Bricks headquarters on Tuesday, May 27, to see the sculptures being built, speak to the builders, and take home a goodie bag!

We cannot wait to see the finished models in situ amongst the animals at Marwell this summer.
