Keeping Warm and Dry this Winter with Mountain Warehouse and Hotter Shoes

The Aurora Womens Down Jacket from Mountain Warehouse is the perfect winter coat as it offers both extreme warmth and protection from the rain.

It is not often you find a warm winter coat that is fully waterproof, but this has coped extremely well with everything the weather has thrown at me so far as it has with taped seams to keep the water out and a feather/down filling for warmth.

The coat has been tested to keep you warm in temperatures as low as -60C, so this jacket is perfect for outdoor lovers like us.

The outer layer is made of 100% nylon with 75% down and 25% feather filling and the jacket fully waterproof, rated at 5000mm, with the IsoDry fabric allowing air to circulate which makes sure you stay dry on the inside and lets moisture out.

The jacket has an inner adjustable cuff with a Velcro strap and an inner ribbed cuff for warmth and comfort but it is the giant hood that has an elastic cord for a better fit and detachable faux fur trim for extra warmth that is my favourite part of the coat – perfect for hiding under when the weather turns.

The jacket also has a down proof lining which prevents the feathers escaping and
multiple pockets including one internal MP3 player/mobile pocket, two large front pockets with poppers which are big enough to store my camera and lens.

Teamed with my Hotter GTX Marlowe Boots, a duo-tone nubuck/suede combination knee-high boot with goretex technology to keep my feet warm and dry, this is the perfect outfit for keeping me warm and dry this winter!

Now we just need some really cold weather or snow as this jacket keeps me so warm I keep having to take it off as the weather has been so mild.

Helly Hansen Universal Moto Insulated Jacket Review

Hubby hates clothes shopping!

He has to wear a uniform for work, doesn’t do fashion, wears clothes until I literally have to prise them off his back and throw them away, but luckily he has me to sort him out.

He has had his raincoat for as many years as I can remember and it has served him well, but a few weeks ago he put it on and realised the zip had broken. I did try to get him to the shops to buy a new one but he wasn’t having it so I took it upon myself to find him the perfect jacket.

I am a big fan of Helly Hansen products and rely on one of their coats to keep me dry on the school run, so they were my first port of call and I found the Universal Insulated Moto Rain Jacket which is perfect. It combines a winter jacket with the classic M-67 military jacket and vintage Japanese motorcycle styling to create a distinct look.

Hubby is very pleased with his jacket and found it very comfortable and practical to wear. The jacket is 79cm in length and falls just below his bum which he says is perfect for him and his kept him warm and dry when we have been out in all weathers.

The Helly Hansen Moto Jacket comes in three colours, navy, stone and rock and has an RRP of £170.

Muddy Puddles Storm Explorer Jacket Review

The weather here is still around 20°C and it seems strange thinking about winter coats, however, the nights are drawing in fast and it won’t be long before the kids need a couple of extra layers of clothing to keep them warm.

We were sent the Storm Explorer Jacket from Muddy Puddles to review that will keep the kids warm and dry whatever the weather.

The unisex jacket comes in navy with a striking red warm super soft zip out fleece. The outer is 100% waterproof and when the fleece is removed it becomes a lightweight rain jacket and the fleece can be worn on its own. As well as the zip feature, the fleece also attaches to the back of the jacket by the hood and on each sleeve to keep it in place.

MUDDY PUDDLES

The Storm Explorer Jacket uses the Muddy Puddles Puddle tec 2 technology and is 10,000mm waterproof and 3000g/m2 breathable. It also has fully taped seams and storm flap that prevents any biting winds or rain getting through the fabric, and is well insulated with the zip in or out 285gsm Hi-loft fleece.

The hood and the fur trim can both be removed and the waist is adjustable enabling different looks for boys and girls, can be tightened to improve performance in different weather conditions like snow and features durable YKK zips and reflective details for added visibility on dark and dreary days.

I actually ordered this jacket for Sebastian (age 3), but have found it comes up large and fits Eliza (5) perfectly. The fact that it is unisex is perfect as it means it can be handed down when she grows out of it.

Eliza’s favourite part of the jacket is the fleece lining as it is so soft she just wants to stroke it. I am looking forward to testing it in some wet weather to see if keeps the kids dry.

STORM EXPLORER JACKET

Whilst I am not wishing this lovely weather away just yet, I am looking forward to seeing how the jacket fairs when tested in our great British weather. But for now, I love the features and design of the coat and know it will be a wardrobe staple for Autumn and Winter.
