We have been regular visitors to the Tank Museum for a number of years and this week were invited along to see their Summer Holiday’s programme.
Running from the 21st July until the 2nd September, the programme is packed with exciting activities, including live Tanks in Action displays, tracked vehicle rides, and hands-on STEM-themed fun, making it the perfect day out for curious kids and adventurous grown-ups.
We visited with my adult son, his tank mad friend, my teenage daughter and my grandson, Barney, who is almost two and all throughly enjoyed our visit.

Barney loved wandering around the tanks, shouting “tank” at almost every one and enjoyed some of the additional activities dotted around the museum, which included playing toy soldiers, making LEGO models and playing with tank themed toys.

Callan, who plays World of Tanks, loved the dedicated gaming zone as well as seeing a number of the tanks he uses in the game.

It was nice to see him remembering some of our previous visits when he was younger and enjoying some of the newer exhibits, such as War Horse and the Trench Experience.

Callan’s friend, Brett, was like a child in a sweet shop and really excited to be able to really examine at all the tanks in real life. He has a real passion for WW2 tanks and one of the volunteers happily showed him around and offered lots of extra information about each one.

There are lots of interactive displays to keep everyone busy and these were definitely Eliza’s preferred activities as she loves to get stuck in to challenges.

The two highlights of the day were the Tanks in Action display, which is held in the arena at 1pm, Monday to Thursday. If visiting with young children, I would recommend taking ear defenders, as there is some gunfire and light explosion noises.

The other highlight, which does cost extra, is the Tracked Vehicle ride, which takes you on a couple of laps around the arena.

A real benefit of visiting the Tank Museum, is that you get a FREE annual pass with every ticket (excluding special event days), meaning you can visit again as many times as you want and with additional activities offered every school holiday, it will give you something to do with the kids all year round.
