Interplay FabLab Designer Tie Die Kit Review and Giveaway

Isaac and Eliza love to make models and pictures, but the only problem with this is they have ruined a couple of t-shirts with pen / paint marks that just will not come out. I was almost at the stage where I was going to throw this clothes out, but then the opportunity came around for us to review the FabLab Tie Dye Kit

It is fun and easy to do and the 8 page instruction booklet explains the techniques to get the latest trendy looks.

The Kit contains 4 dyes in applicator bottles in yellow, pink, purple and cyan, rubber bands and PVC lab gloves. I would also recommend that you put the children in old clothes or an apron and protect your furniture, as it can be a very messy process.

The set is recommended for children aged 8 and above, but with close supervision (I did it with Eliza) younger ones can join in too.

It is best to choose a light coloured t-shirt to dye and the ones that work best should be 100% cotton, but you can also use 50% cotton/50% polyester, although the colours will not be as vibrant as you can see with Isaac’s t-shirt below.

To make stripes, fold the fabric vertically or diagonally, like an accordion or fan, in 2” to 3” wide folds and wrap with rubber bands every 2” – 3” or as desired.

To make circles, lay your shirt flat on the table and pinch both layers of fabric where you’d like the centre of the circle to be. Pull up so the fabric is tented a bit and wrap a rubber band around the fabric an inch or two from the peak of the tent.

Squirt dye on each banded off section of the shirt with the squirt bottles. Open the folds here and there to make sure the dye is going all the way to the middle and that there aren’t any big white spaces. Then squirt the rest of the shirt with the dye. The more dye you use, the darker and more uniform the colour will be.

Interplay Tie Dye Kit

We decided to use just one colour for our first attempt and the kids were over the moon with the results. There are enough ingredients to dye the equivalent of 5 T Shirts, so next time I think we attempt them with more than one colour.

Must say a big thank you to Joanne from CharlieMoos for her help with this one – would recommend a second pair of hands if you have more than one child attempting this!

Thanks to the team at InterplayUK I have a FabLab Designer Tie-Dye Kit to giveaway to one lucky reader.
