My family are massive fans of the How to Train Your Dragon books and films.
One of their favourite toys of the last couple of years has been Hatchimals and we have loved “hatching” them, so imagine the excitement when they found out they could hatch and train their very own Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
The egg itself is slightly smaller than previous Hatchimals eggs and is black and grey in colour.
To start the hatching process you unlock the bottom of the egg, causing the dragon inside to wake up and start making noises.
As you stroke the egg to encourage it to hatch, you can see Toothless’ green eyes glowing through the shell.
Our previous experience of Hatchimals has seen them take around 15 minutes to hatch, but we found Toothless hatched much quicker, which took us by surprise.
As the egg cracks, you can remove pieces of the shell to help Toothless on its final hatching journey.
Once Toothless is outside of his egg, he is ready to play. Firstly, you need to establish your rider’s bond with baby Toothless by placing your hands on his head, teach him how to fly by swinging him through the air and how to plasma blast by holding your hand on his stomach!
Toothless also comes with a fish which you hold to his mouth so he can eat.
Toothless roars and giggles and when you fly him through the air he flaps his wings and wiggles his ears.
Turn the dial on his bottom and you can play games like “Hot Potato” where you avoid being the one holding him when he plasma blasts; Ask him questions and he’ll respond with head and wing movements, and lights and sounds; see who wins in a roaring competition and play music to see him rock back and forth to the beat!
Hatching Toothless – How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World has an RRP of £59.99 but is currently on offer at £49.99 in Smyths Toys. Toothless takes 2 x AA Batteries which are included.
