Eco-Gites of Lenault

All the fun of the Farm at Eco-Gites of Lenault

Being a family of 6, hotel stays can be really awkward as they just don’t make family rooms that are big enough for our family so we have to pay extra to have two rooms which really adds to the cost of a holiday, so we tend to look for holiday cottages or large caravans that can comfortably sleep us all.

I am always nervous of staying in new places and have to admit that I prefer to stay somewhere where there is some sort of friendly connection, so Eco-Gites of Lenault stood out for me as I had been chatting to Rosie on twitter for quite some time.

I booked the Gite back in May last year as a surprise birthday present for Hubby who wanted to see all the historic WW2 sites and was really surprised by how reasonable the price was, even in high season. The booking process was clear and simple, with a deposit to hold the week and then payment 6 weeks before our arrival date. You also need to factor in a damages deposit of £150 which is payable on your arrival and returned after inspection when you leave.

Rosie also offers those little extra’s such as doing a small shop for essentials on your arrival and cooking your first meal on your arrival for a small extra cost. We were also welcomed with a large gift basket of goodies and some homemade cakes, much to the kids delight.

The French don’t do postcodes like us British, so the best our satnav could do was take us to the village of Lenault, but thankfully the directions to the Gite were easy to follow and we found it, in the dark at 10pm at night, with no problem at all. Rosie was waiting for us with a fire going and wine chilling in the fridge (we really needed it) and the meal we had ordered postponed until the following day, as we were late due to ferry delays.

The first night went passed in a bit of a blur but the kids all slept well and we all felt better by the morning but we decided to stay at the Gite on our first day as 15 hours of travelling had taken it out of us but it gave us the chance to take in our surroundings.

The gite has it’s own terraced garden with table and chairs, sun umbrella and BBQ, although it was the wrong time of year to use this. The kids however loved the large play area, play barn and trampoline that are a few metres away from the front door and Rosie introduced us to all the farm animals.

The kids favourite part of staying at Eco-Gites Lenault was not just the huge amount of toys that they could play with both inside and outside the gite, but they also had access to the animals. Every morning they got the chance to help Rosie on the feed run,  mixing up the pigs feed, collecting eggs and even giving the pigs their sugar beet treats and in the evening they got to put the animals to bed.

We were really lucky with the weather and it was mostly sunny whilst we were there, with the added treat of a snow day, where we stayed at the Gite and spent the day playing in the snow.

The Gite benefits from excellent insulation and although we had radiators we could switch on in the bedrooms we didn’t need them as the log burner warmed the whole Gite for us. I so wish we had one at home.

I cannot recommend Eco-Gites Lenault highly enough. The hospitality was fantastic, the Gite was cosy, comfortable and more than big enough for us all and the location was perfect for exploring Normandy and everything it has to offer.

A week wasn’t long enough to see everything we wanted to see so we hope to return next year, only this time in the spring.

Kozi Kidz #WinterWarriors

Kozi Kidz is inspired by the Swedish mind-set that with the right clothing, children can wrap up and enjoy spending time outside in all conditions. All Kozi Kidz rainwear combines high-quality fabrics with advanced designs to ensure kids stay warm and dry A British clothing brand with a strong Scandinavian heritage. Kozi Kidz is committed to the ethos that outdoor play (whatever the weather!) is good for your child and it is dedicated to promoting the benefits of playing and spending time in the great outdoors.

We were invited to review a coat from the Kozi Kidz range and chose this beautiful fur trimmed Alaska parka, which I got in a unisex blue so Eliza can hand it down to Sebastian. The parka is also available in red, black and pink.

Kozi Kidz

The Alaska parka is padded for warmth with a waterproof outer which is waterproof/breathable to 5000/5000mm and fully taped seams that keeps any rain or snow out and the adjustable/detachable hood with a fake fur trim adds to the style of this jacket and really makes it for me. I only wish they made it in my size!

There are also hand warmer pockets and zipped security pockets so Eliza can keep all her treasures safe and secure and reflectors on the back to keep her visible in this dreary weather. It really is a stunning coat and has kept her warm and dry on the school run and on a very chilly day out at Potterne Park where she was learning to ride her bike as well as stopping for a game of Pooh Sticks.

Perfect for the school run, outdoor play or weekend walks, the Alaska is now Eliza’s favourite coat as, in her words, “it’s so warm and snuggly“!

The Somerford

Somerford Beefeater has re-opened its doors with a brand new look!

Somerford Beefeater has re-opened its doors with a brand new look and we were invited down to check out the designer interior and mouthwatering menu.

We last visited in September and didn’t think it needed a new look, however the restaurant has undergone a huge makeover in just eight days, with a fresh look inside and out creating a light, welcoming environment and with booth seating for large groups inside, a comfortable bar area and a modern design.

The updated menu is packed full of favourites for the whole family, including succulent steaks, BeefPasties, Mega Ribs and Oven-Baked Seabass. You will also find plenty of classics including Beer-Battered Cod & Chips and the Beefeater Mixed Grill, each prepared with care and presented with flare. And if these weren’t enough, Beefeater is now offering unlimited skinny or triple cooked chips with selected main meals.

The new menu has even created new roles, and all staff have undergone expert steak and wine training. Despite the restaurant’s new image, familiar friendly staff members remain ready to welcome everyone through the doors, ensuring that guest’s every need is met.

Kelly Redmond, General Manager of Somerford Beefeater said: “All these great changes make Beefeater even more inviting and we’re proud to reopen our doors. We have spent a lot of time working on the presentation of the new look to give our guests the wow factor. We are confident our guests will enjoy the changes as much as we do and friends and families can make the most of their time here. It’s still their Beefeater – but with a modern twist.

Beefeater is all about affordable quality and has great value always-on offers, catering for all manner of tastes. Steak and chips start from just £10.99, Daytime Menu dishes start from £4.99 Monday – Saturday and with kid’s eating free breakfast every day, a visit to Beefeater won’t break the bank either.

We visited last Sunday and saw some of the changes as we pulled up. Gone is the old porch and instead a large, modern wooden plaque features outside with the same Somerford carved into it.

The Somerford

The most significant changes I saw inside was to the bar area and the entrance where we were greeted and shown to our table in the large extension which now has comfy booths to sit in with lots of cow themed artwork to admire.

The Somerford

As it was a Sunday, Kian, Hubby and I all ordered from their Sunday Roast menu. Hubby and I went for Lamb which was perfectly cooked and came with lots of fresh vegetables and Kian went for the chicken which was also delicious. Isaac, Eliza and Sebby chose from the children’s menu and because they can be fussy were able to pick and choose what sides they wanted with their main meals.

The Somerford

I have to admit that as it was a Sunday it was fairly busy and the service was not as good as it had been on our last visit, but the meals arrived within 20 minutes of ordering them. We did have to flag the waiter down to clear the table and order our desserts, but once they had been ordered they did arrive within 10 minutes.

The Somerford

All in all we loved the new look of The Somerford Beefeater and will definately return. The only think that would have improved our visit was to have been served by Lyn but I think she must have had a much-needed day off as we didn’t see her.

If you are visiting your local Beefeater it is worth checking their website or app before you visit as we received a BOGOF voucher of the main meals which took our bill down from £76 to £65. That was for two courses and drinks for 3 adults and 3 children which is very reasonable.

Disclaimer: We were given a £50 gift voucher towards our meal for the purposes of a review.
